LBR or SMC?

How do carbon seatposts cope with the constant up and down?
-
• #16454
They wear out. I’ve seen a few litepro ones and they discolour after a bit due to material loss. Afaik they don’t have wear lines or dimples, so it’s up to the user to decide when to retire the seatpost.

If you're planning to use the bike often or lower your seatpost when folding then we wouldn't recommend this (speaking from experience) it does save amazing weight but titanium would be the route to go,

carbon wheels territory
(fine if you live in Singapore and want to show off, not fine if you are in Blighty, and want to use it a lot or brake...ask Hoke...)
I understood the issue was lightweight polyurethane tubes + carbon wheels with rim brakes = overheating and popping tubes.

• #16457
This rather than the rim itself.

How'd you polish the frame? It looks rad!
-
• #16459
I think that's the factory finish.
-
• #16460
Unfortunately not, the ones out of the factory is matt instead of polished.
He got it polished at UK Metal Polishers LTD.

I stand corrected. Ta.

That's going on the christmas list, might just squeeze through the chimney folded and should be light enough to go on the sled

Does the steel-skinned carbon seat post from the T-Line fit a normal Brompton?
Ignore me, I have just seen on Brilliant bikes that it does fit. Only 90g saving though!
-
• #16464
It's not really a true carbon, only the outer skin which I guess they wanted to make sure it was robust for the long term use.

Very early morning on a multi mode commute.

Impossible to know but hubsmith are legit and that does look like a hubsmith hub. A circlip is a quid or two off eBay, so if the bearings are good then it’s a bargain.
-
• #16468
That hub doesn’t use a circlip, it’s threaded to use a standard cassette lock ring, still easy enough to find
-
• #16469
Yeah I saw that there's no circlip groove. Wondering if that means it's a free hub designed for converting to 3 speed or something.
Anyway, I'll give it a go.Anyone got any good condition speedy tyres? Fed up of the marathons. It's like riding through pudding
-
• #16470
Takes a lockring and yes it's a Hubsmith wheel, bargain!
-
• #16471
Many rave about Continental but have not personally tried them, still on good ol Marathons.
-
• #16472
Wonder how they compare to the Schwalbe Ones
-
• #16473
I have a continent urban tan wall version if you’re interested?
-
• #16474
How many skids have you done?
Yes please pending price and skiddiness -
• #16475
Will have to go to work to collect it, if you don’t mind waiting a day or two. Say £10?
David Miller would definitely be jealous of this.
