  • Just came across this very awesome thread and surprised not to see berghaus munro mentioned by anyone. Unless maybe I missed it. Classic top loading alpine sack. I use it for trips of a few days to several months. I’ve removed the metal frame so I can easily roll it up. Mine’s been in heavy use for around 20 years and doesn’t care at all. You can buy them new from china (pictured) but the fabric on the old ones is much sturdier so look on eBay for used / dead stock in nice colours. No big logos or writing or weird pockets and mesh. I remove the bungee and ice axe clips from mine also.

  • Thanks for suggestions, there was a Monty on eBay for half price so taking a punt on that.

    those look pretty nice 👍

can buy them new from china

I don't follow, was under the impression berghaus is from the UK?

  • My phrasing wasn’t very clear. I mean the older models were manufactured from a heavyweight cordura, today they are labelled as made in China and the material feels a lot less sturdy. Perhaps they were made in china forever but I guess probably not.

  • ..ah, gotcha - thanks for clarifying! 🙂

  • I bought a couple of bags from Spiral - The Trail Backpack and a Roll Top Cross Body. Gave the crossbody one to a family member who's gone through hundreds of bags and said it's the best bag they've had.

The Trail Backpack is decent too and I'm using it now, mainly for off-the-bike usage. Very comfortable to the point I don't realise it's there, but could do with more pockets (I <3 pockets). I've actually got a spare if anyone is interested - it's new but with a mark: https://spiraluk.com/collections/backpacks/products/dark-grey-trail-backpack

  • interested in your spare :)
