Evans says he was radicalised by pain. But he doesn't mention that a consequence of the pain is an end to his sex life. Other sources say this affected him deeply. We don't yet know the details, but if it's a permanent handicap perhaps he's an affluent chad who's been forced to live as an attractive incel. Could be a good hook for the media. Maybe they'll find a girl/boy who broke his heart.
I also wonder whether his empathy with the poor is not because he can't afford healthcare, but because his back surgery was not successful. Perhaps his back isn't fixable even with unlimited funds from his family. He's in pain and deprived of a love life, just like someone who can't afford surgery. He's spent a lot of time reading about back pain and in back pain chatrooms. He can suddenly see the point of view of people who aren't from a rich family.
