Possible, but I doubt it. The speed of this attack caught everyone by surprise, even the rebels. They started a 'counter-attack' 12 days ago and are now walking around the presidential palace in Damascus!
I think the HTS guy is trying to be as pragmatic as possible though, and not aggravate Israel, the west or Russia for the moment, so is making all the right noises, promising to keep Russia's bases intact etc. Everyone is just trying to digest what happened and get their bearings.

Google's new quantum computing chip can do things on a scale I can't quite comprehend. Neither can I guess what it means for the world.

Can it make things leap?
-
• #92155
I don't know. What if something leaps into me to fix all that stuff I messed up?
I think that might be a good thing...
-
• #92156
Or maybe all the stuff you messed up was the leap and left alone you'd have nailed it all!
-
• #92157
Fuck yeah.

I assume it would mean that all existing encryption could be trivially broken, which seems like an issue.

They said not quite yet (possibly as they steal all the money)

Quantum leaps (more often jumps) are fairly pedestrian in physics and happen naturally everywhere all the time. No need for Google turbo 😊

Looks like a MaccyD’s worker snitched on The Adjustor.
Hopefully the $50,000 reward will be enough to cover them if they burn themselves on the grill in the near future.
Lord knows why he was still carrying the gun, fake IDs and manifesto by this point.dons tinfoil hat unless there’s multiple handsome decoys out there all in on it…

Sounds odd that he kept the clothes too. Gun residue?

We wanted him to be smarter than that :(

No kidding. Between distant relatives wanting cash and random strangers with an axe to grind, the cops have put a massive target on the back of every worker at that shop. 50k after tax is paltry money for how fucked their lives are going to become. It’s also between 1.2 and 2 days of the dead guy’s company compensation, for anyone interested (assuming a 365x8 schedule). Shame the estate didn’t pony up something for the reward but in their case it’s hardly surprising.
tinfoil hat what if it’s a decoy, someone with an ironclad alibi, to throw the cops off the trail?

Such a disappointing revolution. If we'd known that the lookalike contest was going to be the highlight we could have appreciated it more fully.

My guess is that Luigi Mangione wanted to be arrested, so he can use the trial to promote his world view. It will be interesting to see how it is covered by the media.

Long post by Robert Evans (from Behind the Bastards) on this:

Not sure if it's too early to view it as accurate but it does sound like it could be a thing
