I didn't realise Valencia was that much spoken, though I know they're proud. Actually it's meant to me similar to catalan I believe.
I live in a Catalan stronghold so it's the daily language, learning it opened doors for me. Plus at school here, in our town, everything is taught in catalan and Spanish is taught as a class as a second language! With speaking french it made sense as french and Catalan are close. Ultimately, people are very happy to practice and help a stranger learning Catalan so it made it easier. But now, I can't leave Catalunya or get a proper job and where but locally so I need to learn Spanish.
Having just done an hour this is good thanks, works for me in how I learn and skips the bullshit basics for idiots, nor concerns itself with detailed grammar.
Yes Catalan and Spanish are very similar, but still different. I can understand a lot of Spanish now, but can't speak much so I need to cross that bridge. Then I need to do some grammar and some proper exams I think.
