Statins, if you don't have the side effects ;) Allegedly being on statins after 40/50 is supposed to be a good thing. But can't remember why. All diabetics are supposed to be on statins but no idea if that is true.
An interesting book I read a while back https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-Cholesterol-Revised-Expanded-Disease/dp/1592339336 You could experiment on yourself and see what happens.EDIT: By experiment on yourself I mean that people are very different so what may work for one many not work for others. So experiment to find out what works for you.

Although this thread started as a nostalgic look back at our jumpers-for-goalposts childhoods, it’s definitely morphed into general midlife huffing .
With that in mind, I’m balls deep in my personal existential crisis so anyone else used the Death Clock app?
I have 2,086 weekends left before I die, 53% of life completed, 481 full moons. 😐 -

Just over half way? So are you mid 40s?

• #3488
Christ this is a depressing thing to look up.
I’m both sad and on high alert already without some app telling me how far done I am!

That just sounds like an excuse for cheeky halves every weekend..

Will you help myself through it?

Hell no do not need.
When my mum died I frequently thought about the fact I was half her age. -
• #3492
This: I'm the same age now my mother was when she had her heart attack, approximately the age my grandfather died of a pulmonary aorta, and not far from the age my dad had the same.
My "to-do list" is in danger of morphing into my bucket list.

Hope you have been checked out.

Ex mum died at 45? From cancer I think. The ex found it difficult in the year coming up to the same and out living her mum.

Statins can be a bastard. GPs dole them out like smarties because they are cheap and effective. But if you are intolerant (like me and a surprisingly large proportion of the population) be prepared for some misery until your Doc accepts that maybe they aren’t for you. Bastards tried three flavours on me before accepting that maybe muscle pain gut ache and malaise I was reporting might be side effects of bloody medication they’d prescribed. Luckily no muscle loss which can be a thing - they can literally melt and clog organs! On something else now which seems OK, which is good because apparently I’m genetically predisposed to have mad cholesterol despite healthy diet, tons of exercise etc.

Oh someone else was asking about lowering cholesterol. Haw worked for my mum (apparently). I think it might be a Chinese remedy thing. I can't remember what format, maybe a tea. Or just buy packs of haw flakes from the Chinese supermarket. It could also have been a dramatic reduction in crisps intake.

Correct, 45 down, 40 to go. Although this is predicated on ‘2-7 booze drinks per week’…
It could be worse - the guy who sent it to me has a death date in 2051!

Not trying to come across as a grumpy shit bag, I did mention side effects. Didn't mention what the side effects were ;)
Now to sound knowledgeable, there are people who are intolerant, like you, and you are lucky as have heard of diabetics having to take two or three other medications to cover the intolerance. Such as stomache and toilet issues which are exaggerated when taking Metformin.
If you are predisposed then not much you can do. Maybe read the book I mentioned the cholesterol myth one. I recommend getting it from a library as it is an interesting read but sort of doesn't get people are different and what works for one don't work for the other. Some worked for me, and I stopped taking simvastatin as last thing at night I can't be fucked to brush my teeth never mind taking one of the 8 tablets I take a day.

I’m not a statin fan.
A coworker was on Lipitor. We used to call it sleepitor because he would doze off constantly. Not a joke - anytime he was sitting still, even in meetings.
