I see what you did there.

  • I could bring you some Wenzels* mincers.

(* Outer west London's equivalent to Greggs).

  • Half Dozen Other's effort (Manchester). Excellent filling, vegan friendly, unlikely to travel well in a jersey pocket or cargo bib shorts.

  • Bought some in Greggs at Glasgow central station yesterday for the train home. Very anaemic, doughy and under baked. Saved the rest to finish off cooking at home. Took another 8 minutes in the air fryer!

  • Finally! Went to LBridge and Tonbridge again yesterday, and got a few boxes. Christmas is back on again...

  • Took a delivery of four of the past two years’ undisputed champion (Forge Bakehouse, Sheffield) this morning. Initially struck by trepidation as they’ve swapped out the traditional pastry lid for a potentially controversial crumbly topping.

Needn’t have feared - these still absolutely bang. Pastry is crisp without being dry, filling remains absolutely on point, crumbly topping doesn’t really add much, but doesn’t detract either. Still a 10/10 pie, shame they are s0 fucking expensive but at least it will stop me eating too many.

  • The family just demolished Gregg's six pack. Pretty good, nice pastry, very tart and spicy filling.
I'll heat up the next pack, I think that will lift them to the top tier.

  • Looks very good!

For folks in the E17 area I had a mince pie from Choclatine on wood street and it was excellent. The filling was potentially the best I’ve had this year. Pastry was flaky and so that perhaps let it down slightlyz

  • It's the feelgood story of the year!

    Yeah?

  • Oh shit they’re in on it? Thanks for the heads up.

  • Well, that and the fact I can only get them delivered once a week and if I want more then it’s a 4 mile round trip

  • I'm in the orifice today and tomorrow. What's the best/half decent mincer on the high street/coffee chain that isn't Greggs?

  • if I want more then it’s a 4 mile round trip

The perfect distance for head clearing bike ride.

  • High st. wise I'm finding the Aldi ultimates hard to beat - 2 pack for £2.50, not tried the M&S bakery ones yet but they're supposed to be good too. Heard good things about Cafe Nero from the coffee chain perspective.

  • I dont rate Morrisons bakery for anything, but their 'fresh' best ones aren't too bad.

The Nero one is quite nice, quite sweet I found.

  • I’d say m&s is the best supermarket single mince pie - Morrisons probably not on the high st but also very strong offering

The Gail’s one is very good but £3 a pop

  • Cheers I'll have a look at lunchtime!

  • I nabbed a mince pie from the sweet offerings at a meeting yesterday. I'm pretty certain it was from Pret.

It was excellent. Buttery pastry, generous filling with whole fruit.

  • Had a Pret mincer. Pretty good!

  • Can someone give a store bought summary? No posh shit. I want 6 pies in a box, foil lids, on a shelf, in a supermarket.
Tesco's merry mince pies are shit.

  • Foil lids? Are you sure?

  • Very nice mince pie ‘slice’ from quality chop house.
It should be for £12 !

  • The standard Coop ones in a box are shite, however, the Coop 'bakery' four pack in their little clear plastic housing we're surprisingly good. Caught me off guard. I was eyeing up the ones in Fortitude this morning, alarmed to see them at £20 a box!

  • is that £5 a pie?!
