So I'm still pondering a 2 speed conversion for my 6 speed. I only use the bike for commuting and all of the hills I face are long but not steep and I never use 1st or 2nd gear. The final, 6th gear is pretty long too and rarely used. Never get into it in London and only on my way home going back down the hills does it see any use but I could just as easy roll or spin the 5th.
I want to lighten the bike basically, I have to carry it up and down stairs daily. I also prefer simplicity and would love to do away with the second shifter.
Does 2 speed sound like a good option? If I stick with a 50t, I can keep my current 3rd gear ratio and get a second somewhere between my current 4th and 5th which would be perfect for the London leg but I lose the top end which is occasionally handy.
2 speed wheel and then 3 speed external conversion?
Wouldn't it be cheaper/simpler to run it as a 3sp considering you've already got the BWR hub/wheel? That's how I've got mine setup and it's been grand.
