  • Thanks for bumping this - completely forgot that I'm donating tonight!

  • Yep I do plasma. As you said, pretty much the same but takes longer. I need to be careful to hydrate really well afterwards, but you don't get that 'bit tired' feeling like you do with whole blood. Recommended.

  • I tried to donate plasma a little while ago, but when I turned up they told me they needed blood just as much so since I'd not donated before, was I OK donating the usual? Anyway, since then I've earned my 25 badge (aaah-WOOF!), which is actually 26 cos the first one was so long ago it's not on the current system. Just another 25 or so to catch up with my dad...

  • Well done. You can ask them to add the missing one

  • how much of a performance drop-off do people experience in their running? I`ve been trying to get my 5k time sub 20 and i think my last donation set me back by about 4 weeks? Makes sense obviously but was hoping it would be much more of a blip. Any other experiences? Also a chance i was looking for an excuse to not push as much

  • I think it was about a week for me, but I was going for 24-26 min 5ks last time I had any consistent data.

  • I’ll tell you after this morning’s Parkrun, but I think any drop off will be more closely linked to eight points of Neck Oil last night tbh.

  • Fair. Think I am just in a bit of a rut and the blood donation is part excuse.

  • Did about 25 mins, but had to walk a couple of times as I was feeling a bit woozy. I've been doing 22-23 recently, so a bit of a drop-off.

  • Some what related, I just got my letter saying I have added to the bone marrow donation register.

  • I'll be interested how you recover. Still pretty good going

  • Urgent blood drive has been launched following the hack of some of the London hospitals last week

  • 6:20 today. Bag of Seabrooks and, of course, a mint club.

  • Still getting 15-min waits today. I've got an uncommon group, so want to make sure there's some in the freezer in case it's needed.

  • I seem to be taking longer and longer to donate - over 9 minutes today. I should asks them for a bigger bore needle.

  • #32 today.

90 minutes to do the 3.7 miles from home to the donation centre. Wimbledon Hill being closed has screwed the local buses. Two separate 493 buses dumped their passengers by AFC Wimbledon before a third came along that went as far as the hospital. I could (and should) have walked from home, it would have been quicker. I'd cycle but I did that once before and felt distinctly wobbly on the way home so I've abandoned that.

  • Went in August and the nurse messed up with the needle, so I wasn't able to donate. Then I booked for last week and they cancelled it by email when I was on my way to the centre. Why does nobody want my cherished elite AB- blood?

  • I went a couple of weeks ago. Booked the day before with plenty of slots available which feels like it didn't used to be the case.

One of those where you can tell it's not going to go smoothly, spent ages prodding at my arm, asked a couple of times if this was the arm I normally donate from. Eventually stuck a needle in and then had to get someone to come over to adjust it.

Donation was fine after that apart from a comedy bruise though.

  • It’s been too long since my last donation, they cancel, I cancel, they cancel… the staff shortages around here are crazy.

Despite my questionable 25 year-old tattoo, I’ve never had a nurse fail to hit the vein.

  • Went on Wednesday, with the mrs.

We came out wondering how they had messed up the plasters on both of us, as they had folded a corner under.

Later, when we can to take them off.

    MIND.

    BLOWN.
