Will his own people switch sides and stop him getting on it? There must have been a torrent of defections and desertions for the rebels to have moved so fast.
Sounds like some other rebel groups have joined the fight and are approaching Damascus from the South and East as well. They may/may not be able to hold it, but definitely looks like game over for Assad.
