Just been round the block a few times to make sure there's no rattles, and everything works/fits nicely. No rattles, all works as it should, but need to go back a bit with my bum, hence ordering the Nitto S65 seat post

That is really, really nice. The proportions, components, paint. Great job! Wotcha thinking luggage-wise? Some kinda tool roll or saddle bag would finish it off nicely.
EDIT: Oops, I was commenting on earlier photos! That saddle bag DOES finish it off nicely :)

What a great bike!! I love the stainless details. Does it handle like a touring or road bike? Or somewhere in the middle:)
-
• #106
@Browndonneur , not too dissimilar to the proportions of your Clandestine, which is no surprise at all, as it was a key inspiration for this build.
@kjlem , I've never had a touring bike so I wouldn't know what one feels like, I think I'm one of those people that think a bike just feels like a bike (ill-informed, uneducated, or just plain ambivalent maybe).
I really like the little bits of frame jewellery (stainless details) Winston does, that's one of the reasons I keep going back to him. -

nice this, ideal

Ta, ideal cake hunting bicycle!
It'll be the next thing Big Bike try and sell us. -

Positive rise stem on a custom bike is a real power move in my opinion. Would love one of these.
-
• #110
I'm all for positive rise stems, nice upright riding position without fuck loads of spacers or excessively long steerer tubes, this one is 0ยฐ, with a stack height of 60mm.
If one needs to get more aero, do what I do, put a much larger riding companion on the front, and draft behind them, simples. -

Shit! Thatโs what Liz is doing!!
Also.
BANGING! Bike. -

Liz sounds like a smart cookie.
And, cheers, I'm pretty pleased with it. -

What's the saddle bag?
-
• #114
It's a Carradice Audax made of lightweight waterproof fabric rather than duck cotton, it's now been replaced by the Cambrian in the line up.
Edit: one of these

Weather looks decidedly non bike ridey this weekend.
Gonna crack on with the last few jobs.....
-fit new gold chainring bolts
-fit Nitto S65 seat post
-have a trial fit of some wider tyres, see how much I can get away with, then set rims n tyres up tubeless
-fit new hulsroy bottle cages
-clean and fit the XTR rear derailleur
-eat mince pies. -

As I thought, 43mm tyres (which probably measure up nearer to 40mm on 19mm internal rims) fit very nicely indeed.
Threw on a pair of Panaracer GK semi slicks I had in my stash (from a build that didn't happen in the summer).
If anyone is interested in a very lightly used (50 miles max) pair of Ultradynamico Cava JFF 700 x 39 (come up narrower on 19mm internal rims), black/black tyres, gimme a shout. -
• #123
How much? Could be something I'd like to try.
Edit: Actually scratch that. It's gonna be stupid expensive with import and everything and you should sell locally
-
• #124
How narrow do they come up? ๐ค
-
• #125
I'd say about 37mm.
Why whatya thinking?Edit: I have to take the GKs off to set up tubeless, so I can refit a Cava and have a proper measure if you like?
@Browndonneur , sorry missed your comment, thanks. Them puff pastry mince pies are a bit lacking in filling, but enjoyable nonetheless.
@Five-Hats ta, I'll do my very best, already planning the next frameset, current thinking is exactly the same as this, minus the gear shifty bits, a nice single speed for flat rides and the commute.
