  • This is the inspo, but I'd like to do it in pink. Plus I don't have any mantle piece or surround so it will look a little cleaner.

  • God I wish i'd straightened that image before posting it.

  • key search term: zellige tiles

  • how very dare you

  • zellige tiles

    Thanks that is helpful

  • Point of order m'lud: my kids stopped growing (at least in the height sense) several years ago now.

  • Glorious front door. Glass is bellissimo.

  • not as bad as living here nearly a year with no skirting board in the lounge/no threshold strip/no door handles on half the doors/light switches with no face plates etc etc.

I may have just shamed myself into doing some of the smaller jobs.

  • The skirting boards for me and my brother's flat remained on the communal walkway the entire 5 years I lived there. No door handles until I bought some plastic shed ones off ebay* after getting sick of closing my bedroom door by hooking my finger through the hole where a handle should be

*was a student, didn't have money for Buster & Punch

  • To be fair, that was the left over skirting board. Although only about 50% of the actual skirting was attached to the wall.

  • “ closing my bedroom door by hooking my finger through the hole where a handle should be”
Cringes inside and looks at the hole in the door and box of Plank hardware handles shoved on top of kitchen cabinet.
In fairness to myself I did order some skirting while I was right in the middle of the renovation but failed to take into account that I needed the slim stuff which wouldn’t overhang to door frame where they meet so some got fitted in bedrooms where it would hardly be visible and then it came to the point where we just needed to move in asap.
I just fitted a cover to a light switch though so am rewarding myself with a mince pie.

  • Top work, best to progress carefully. Less haste and all that

  • Looking good

  • None of the "architects" threads seemed very active so I'll put this here - it's the last day to respond to the ARB consultation on a new draft Code of Conduct and Practice (which is mandatory to follow for all UK registered architects) - https://arb.org.uk/consultations/consultation-architects-code/

There have been a few pieces in the press lately:
    https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/opinion/why-we-need-the-word-care-in-the-new-arb-code-of-conduct

    https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/opinion/arbs-new-draft-code-of-conduct-weakens-its-provisions

    https://www.bdonline.co.uk/opinion/workplace-culture-the-overlooked-crisis-in-architecture-and-how-to-fix-it/5133183.article

    Anyone can respond, please do.

  • Obvs a lot has changed in the 7 years since the code was last revised - and this is a total rewrite not a revision - but IMO this is a missed opportunity and in addition poorly done.

    • new structure and presentation is superficially more "general public friendly" - fine no issue with that.

    • but actually the new structure is basically the opposite the RIBA Code and not at all obvious. You assume the numbered bits are "clauses", like the old code. But trying to interpret "Applying the Standards" (on intro page) the Standard is the bit at the top (mandatory), and the numbered things are merely "examples" (non mandatory). The language of how they are written suggest the opposite and half the Standards are just a "positive statement".

    • onto the content, "Wider impact" (old code) has been absorbed by "Public interest" and you would think it might be appropriate to mention climate, carbon, ecology, biodiversity etc (words/ideas that have become rather more mainstream in last 7 years).

    • standard 6 Respect attempts to address EDI but unfortunately the first example is that architects should be polite. Bullshit.

  • Thought this might be of interest here….i sometimes help my mate out, installing glass blocks.

  • That’s nice. Can also see why help was needed, that’s a lot of glass blocks!

  • Surely the smiley faced lamp belongs in the Hidden faces thread?

  • Ooh I like how it turns into half size ones to go into the curve at the end.

  • I love them, and will be doing something in the new bathroom along the lines of a curved screen walk in shower thing…
Such a good way to divide a room, whilst keeping borrowed light and maintaining privacy ( if you use the correct blocks).

  • We’ve done bigger!😂 like the whole outside of a five story building, bigger!😂
