  • Waitrose No.1 mince pies are delish. My fave so far.

  • M&S coming in hot

already covered this off but they seem to have gone up by 25p since i last sampled!

  • Waitrose No.1 mince pies

i'm working through a box of these right now - decent, a bit too sweet though for my tastes.

  • Always liked the de-lid technique, adding a dash more booze before heating. Got that from here.

  • They're not canon but I'm willing to be converted

  • That's definitely just a steak bake

  • It’s just the default food encasement system in the UK. They look good tho.

  • Which? would have you believe that the Aldi and M&S pies are equivalent (both scoring 71%). I love aldi in general but M&S is a clear winner. The filling is v good for a mass produced pie.

How many pies is everyone eating every day? For me its 2/day from Nov 1st till Dec 31. No excuses

  • For me its 2/day from Nov 1st till Dec 31

One can only aspire to such levels of commitment!
Since moving a couple of years ago I no longer have a ready and plentyful supply just down the road so I'm seriously slacking this season. Only one Coffee #1 pie which I should have known was compensating by it's inflated size which didn't soften the blow of an unsatisfactory mince pie experience :(

  • 6 pack from a local bakery, absolutely delicious. I did brush off most of the unnecessary sugar.

  • All this posh mince pie nonsense. A mince pie is not an event, it's an everyday occurrence, best eaten a bit past their best so they're soggy and 6 at a time mashed with a spoon.

Like all great things in life, it obviously has to be done at home when no one is watching.

  • Not much instances of custard, cream, ice-cream etc?

What, if anything, goes with a mince pie?

  • clotted cream

  • Trying to keep it to 1, however I bought a box from Gregg's yesterday & due to the 45 degree racking system in the box, 2 had started to seep - so I ate both of those

  • brandy butter, brandy cream, brandy

  • When straight from the oven/microwave/air fryer, in a bowl with some oat milk is great.

  • Custard. it's a sweet pie, so has to be custard, non of your gourmet shit with real vanilla extract and seeds in it, oh no, just "fuck knows how they make it so creamy" Ambrosia!

  • The Gails mince pie is very good but at £3 a go it's hard to justify.
Tried some of the Waitrose cranberry and orange jobbies. They taste good but I don't actually consider them to be a true mincer.

I'm actually planning on doing a mince pie bike tour tomorrow around a few bakeries - will report back

  • I could quite happily not eat these again but the missus bought some. They taste alright. Could be co-op, could be local bakery. I presume co-op with the foil bums. Tastes like a mince pie.

  • I've got a suggestion ...

  • Sainsbury’s finest frangipane mince pies. Wish I hadn’t bothered as bit sweet overall and not a strong mince/peel hit and the almond frangipane isn’t really hitting the spot either.
The Almond ricciarelli they sell are nice though (soft almond biscuits)

Think I’m just going to wait for the Chatsworth bake house Xmas order as their mince pie slice is a thing of beauty.

  • Tell me more about this slice and how do I order?!
