  • Was stiff straight after joining it. I think the bit of the chain that it joins onto, and which was where I split it, was slightly bent. The force of pedalling for a couple of k's seems to have loosened it though

  • Where can I buy a freehub for a HG cassette that will fit a boost Stan’s Neo rear hub please?

  • Does anyone here know if it's possible to source spares for Tektro brakes?
I have a set of Tektro CR720's with two right springs.

Also anyone from the industry know why the CR720 are so hard to track down in the UK at the moment?

  • Because it’s better to go for the Shimano R353 instead.

They stopped making that Tektro I believe, only one I can find from our supplier is the 992A.

If you really want canti, look into Shimano CX50.

  • Well, the UK distributor doesn't even list or stock them, so that might be why

  • Yeah – I want to know why they are not stocking them. i.e discontinued as Ed has said, or if there is a supply issue and they will return.

Also question stands about Tektro spares

  • I’d be looking for whatever spring you can get, lbs or your nearest hoarder will probably have lots.

I got Dia Compe adjusters nuts working with Paul cantis and the springs look like they’d be transferable too.

  • I've been looking for a while but not turned up anything viable.
They are this (annoyingly slightly proprietary) shape:

It's similar to the more readily available Dia Compe springs (below), but with the dogleg and no finger latch at the end. Begrudgingly I've a set of these on order. Hopefully they are the right depth and the lever arm has enough reach

  • Ah ok, I went straight to assuming they’d be the kind with the shorter stub either end that fit in a hole on the brake arm.

  • It is β€˜just’a bent bit of wire, could you roll your own?

  • Ha, I could probably muddle through it but I thought brake springs needed to be heat tempered? Think thats beyond my kitchen counter tooling.

Unless I can find a source of Tektro spares I'm just going to hold out to see if I can fettle the DC springs

  • I thought brake springs needed to be heat tempered?

You might be right, I've often thought about trying to make some but seem to always have managed to find something to fit so haven't tried...yet.

  • replying to myself, so I have found out that Chosen make stans hubs, where can I pick up a chosen HG freehub for boost wheel?

  • I thought brake springs needed to be heat tempered? Think thats beyond my kitchen counter tooling.

Getting the right steel to spring temper isn't beyond the reach of home gamers. There's plenty of advice in the gun-smithing world, those people are constantly making replacement springs for things which haven't been manufactured for over a century.

  • Not sure what triangulation of profiling is required for Googling home made gun parts to land you on a watch list, so ... I'm out.

  • Hypothetically (disregarding practicality!), could a full mechanical build be fully internally routed? Or is it routing through the handlebar/headset interface too tight?

  • It can. Plenty are.

  • And it's the worst idea ever.

  • It's always fun when your bike changes gear every time you turn the handlebars

  • Why are the teeth of this Blackspire chainring not in the middle of it? It's bringing the teeth closer to the chain stay. Is this one made for use on double or triple cranks??

  • Offset chainring for different rear spacing/chain line

  • Most prewar shotgun springs were pretty much homemade. Most work was subcontracted out with only the assembly and fettling done by the retailer.

  • Is this one made for use on double or triple cranks??

It's narrow/wide, so definitively not. Along with extra height on the teeth, it's a strictly 1x thing.

  • Yea I get that, but there was a time where everyone was putting these on their 2x or 3x cranksets. Maybe this offset is to make the chain line better on one of those cranks
