Congratulations! Yet further proof that the GS rebrand was a mistake. Imagine if this just said ‘Grand Seiko’ with nothing in the bottom half of the dial. This is perfect.

I don’t think they do, what’s wrong with the date wheel/window? I kind of like how the wheel is sort of silver, like the markers/date window rather than being white or the colour of the dial - something different, I guess.

I think I'm a lot less bothered about the GS vs SGS branding than some people. On the modern watches I generally prefer the GS rebrand. I'm glad they did SGS on this but I still think GS would work, with "HI-BEAT 36000" and maybe the Daini logo at the bottom (that might be weird though).

it has brought me back to wanting an SBGV009

I don't like a contrasting date wheel, always looks jarring to me when compared to one that matches the dial.
The date window I just think is a bit cumbersome with the heavy frame.

Anywhere in particular that people would recommend for sourcing a second hand JLC?

Of those two executions, I much prefer the Citizen! I think it's nicely done. Again v similar to the GS style and a lot of 8L / 9S movements have a silver date wheel too.

I personally find it more odd if the date wheel matches, I feel it's supposed to contrast so it's easily identified on the dial and has better legibility.

Absolutely loads of manufacturers put in a contrasting date wheel and I dislike every one! It just seems so lazy to me, that they couldn't be bothered to find a second date wheel.

Take these two as examples: I can't believe anyone would prefer the earlier white date wheel over the later matching design:

But no manufacturer ever (or hardly ever, sure there is one out there!) puts a black date wheel in a white or silver dial. If it were for contrast you would surely expect them to do that?

How often do you really need the date in such a hurry that you can't spare a fraction of a second to read it?

No… Even if we were to acquire additional brands, I wouldn’t classify it as a traditional watchmaking group. I strongly believe in independent management, where each brand is structured around authenticity and responsibility of every manager. Of course, there are synergies to be leveraged – e.g. in distribution, supply chain, finance, and support activities. Breitling now is a big machine so we have all of these resources in place. However, these support functions are not what differentiates brands.
What truly sets a brand apart is its design, manufacturing, product, content and movements. We would be well positioned to integrate Universal Genève and potentially others. But this isn’t a group in the conventional sense.
A group is not synonym for success. You always have successful and underperforming brands within a group. A group is an addition of managers and management teams that are more or less efficient and good at what they do. Simply adding a brand doesn’t automatically ensure its success. What matters most is the culture of the team, the alignment of the managers, and the creation of an environment where each brand can express itself.

just bought some cheap izumi chains from a place called banana industries and noticed they had some seiko ships clocks, loving this passageway one but skint at the moment.

Definitely worked in our, we got quite a bit of colours (dark green, dark blue, red, yellow, white etc.)

I’m still tempted but would have to sell something to justify it. Annoying thing is I have loads of stuff (non watch) but too lazy to actually pic/describe/list etc

I looked at those too and pondered how waterproof they would be for using outside. My guess was probably not waterproof enough.

It entirely depends on the movement. It has to be something special at that price.
