  • Having seen it, I agree with you. The close-up shots made it look absolutely murderous.

  • Right back for Botafogo was playing for Burnley at the start of this season. Opinion was split amongst the fans whether or not he was good enough for Burnley ...

  • I’m not so sure.
    Why is grealish?
    What is foden?
    Where is KDB?
    When is walker?

  • They’re questions, that’s for sure.

  • The word on the street (or terraces) is that some of the fans at Anfield actually started signing "you're getting scratched in the morning", the rest of the crowd mis-heard and sang "you're getting sacked in the morning" instead.

Not sure I believe it, but either way, it was clearly sang in jest as Pep is never going to get sacked after what he's done for City and the crowd knew that too.

  • Oh Arne...

  • Peak John Barnes was something else.

  • Is that actually the LFC goal of the season comp or the league's?

  • Saw him play once when I was about 9 or 10, when Watford played Dorking in a friendly, just before he went to LFC.

  • In that season BBC's goal of the season featured ONLY goals from Liverpool.
Possibly with at least 3 or 4 from their matches against Forest.

  • Liverpool were so dominant then, it's no surprise!

  • Yes please to Jose for city.

  • The other kid in the advert, got life (Min 18 years) for murder last year. So it may not be repeated as much as I'd expect in the build up.

  • In that season BBC's goal of the season featured ONLY goals from Liverpool.

Dennis bergkamp has done this all by himself

    (Month not season admittedly - August 97, 1st, 2nd and 3rd)

  • Wasn't he. Classy player

  • Weren't they all from the same game too? (A 3-2 win at Leicester).

  • I think only two, the one where he hit top bins from outside the box after a short corner, and the one that was a lot like the famous Holland vArgentina goal. The other goal in the hattrick took a big deflection off the keeper

The other in the top 3 was a solo effort running from the half way line against Southampton

The impossible turn past Nikos Dabizas will always be my favourite though. Soft spot also for the lob against Leverkusen and the assist for Ljungberg against Juve, having seen those live, both were moments where the whole crowd couldn't believe what it was seeing

  • I think you are right. Just refreshed my memory on YouTube and only the first and third goals were worth inclusion.

The impossible turn past Nikos Dabizas will always be my favourite though

Mine too. I'll always remember the report that David Lacey wrote in The Guardian at the time; Bergkamp didn't so much as control the ball, as issue it with a series of instructions.

  • Those Leicester goals were a foreshadowing of his match against Argentina.

  • Love reading all this. I have seen him make so many incredible goals at Ajax. And later on at Inter (not so much) and Arsenal, fuck me he was on a different planet in the premier league. Well, mind you we only got MOTD, so only the best bits of the matches. But still, the joy of a sublime pass, which you knew was going to happen. I miss that sometimes nowadays.

  • I went to most Arsenal home games when Bergkamp was playing, and watching him live was a genuine privilege. His understanding and use of space was astonishing, but I think it was his ability to control the ball that really made him stand out. It didn’t matter how the ball was played to him, he always controlled it with a single touch.

  • As @lemonade said, that goal at Newcastle was amazing and the pass he received from Pires was hit hard and fast, but that single touch to control it and take out Dabizas still astonishes.
