I know, right. Who the fuck is that?
-
• #102803
The only out Tory 'comedian' in the country other than Jim Davidson, which means that, despite being about as funny as child cancer, the BBC have to have him on every single radio and panel show to keep the Daily Mail happy.

Does anyone else sometimes pick a page from 12 years ago and reminisce at how funny and stupid memes used to be?
-
• #102806
Well it seems like this norcott person annoys at least some of the right people
-
• #102807
But it was a good meme and made me laugh
-
• #102808
Geoff fucking Norcott tho?
Obviously he's a Tory prick, but he's written for plenty of quite funny stuff, including such right wing stalwarts as New World Order, HIGNFY and the Mash report. If he was as bad as Tories got, the last 15 years wouldn't have been quite so fucking awful.

As BBC DEI hires go, he is a very long way from having the lowest talent:pervasiveness score

That would be either Hugo Rifkind or Giles Coren. It's a toss-up between them. A tosser-up, even.

Giles Coren
Whose father, on the other hand, was a Tory but one of the funniest men alive at one point, and a good friend of Jeremy Hardy. It's too easy to paint everybody who doesn't share your politics as lacking a sense of humour - although I don't think that was @kl 's point, to be fair.

• #102812
Quite. PJ O'Rourke had his moments too.
-
• #102813
Dangerous that
-
• #102814
Giles Coren had his moments too, I suppose. I enjoyed the thing he did with Sue Perkins where they went through history, one eating as a rich person did, the other as a poor person. That aside, his general odiousness is pretty pervasive.

Giles Coren had his moments too
He sure did.
Quote Giles Coren, on the death of Dawn Foster:
“I’m sorry for the people who loved you, and any human death diminishes me, but can you f*** off on to hell now where you belong”?”
Quote Giles, on his neighbours getting their 12 yo kid a drum kit
For fuck’s sake! Do I kill him then burn it? Or do I fuck him, then kill him then burn it?”
Quote Giles, on going on holiday with his 3 year old daughter
I sit and stare at her, like the dippiest lover, not talking, transfixed by her beauty. Unable quite to drink it all in. Missing heartbeats at the way she gazes out at the sea through her long, curling lashes while slurping Coke through her pursed, plump little lips.
And doing this I realise how being on holiday with my tiny daughter is the most insanely romantic holiday, in some ways even the sexiest holiday, that I’ve ever had.
I could go on. Giles is a talentless cunt (emphasis on cunt) who would be bullying people in some middle management role if it weren't for who his dad was.

Always found Hugo Rifkind quite funny on panel shows. Don't generally read his opinion pieces however.

He did a nice review of the kebab place on Kentish Town high street that i used to go to in my lunch breaks sometimes though...

o’rourke can’t be compared to coren. the former is a real writer, his zeal for reagan was depressing but his funny moments were also often self deprecating. Having a craft, being funny and having/showing a modicum of awareness of his own fallibility are three things that he has over coren. Also coren is now, whereas o’rourke’s awfulness wasn’t a context we share, it makes hating him more urgent!

E mono was amazing and so cheap, shame prices had doubled last time I went in.
Is there a sort-of kebabs that are filling you up thread? Needs to be one for good kebab recommendations

• #102820
Haven't been for at least 4 years, when I stopped working in KT. Used to get a halloumi wrap at least once a week!
-
• #102821
Same here as in Bristol now, but used to regularly swing by on way to or from Tapping the Admiral.

To continue the thread derail, Simple Shawarma on Church Road is supposed to be top notch

Bloody love E Mono
He was in Babuji, reviewing I guess, when I went in there close to them opening.

Will add to my list. If you're ever in the centre, Cedar Express at top of park row by Wills memorial building is excellent and been my go to for years + an absolute bargain (also do lahmacun). Biblos are great too for jerk chicken wraps, and do a £5 lunch deal

• #102825
jerk chicken
If you ever venture Fishponds way, Gullu's on Lodge Causeway do amazing jerk chicken.
Geoff fucking Norcott tho?
