• I have couple questions for the experienced wheel builders out there please

    1. Are light bicycle ERD measurements accurate in people's experience?
    2. how much should I add to the ERD for a regular slotted nipple (sapim poleaxe if it matters)

    Thank you

  • rule of thumb is : always check ERD yourself to avoid double spending on spokes(if you dont have a spoke cutter). for the slotted nipple: do you want your spoke sitting on the bottom of the "nipple flange" or you want the spoke all the way to the top where the threads end? some people like to have the slot not filled all the way up for a little more "wiggle room" for future wheel truing / maintenance comfort. as long as its a normal nipple seat at the rim (so that you can see and true the nipple from the outside) you can get away with not calculating extra clearance.

thanks for the answer, I had assume bottom of the slot gets the most benefit - I would guess above that there is no benefit.

    thanks
