Nope, messed up the spoiler code!
Let me do it...
Working from memory here, but I think it was an anagram of "dies" including the abbreviation "p" for power, to give a word that means "saw". Hence "spied". The anagram indicator was "incorrectly" and the word "using" in the clue was to indicate the inclusion of "p" for "power".
