Better.org will be contracted by the council to deliver managed service, so shouldn't be the decision maker on changes such as this surely? If so, best to lobby the council directly.
E.g. iirc the MCR Velodrome refurb was led by MCC not Gll/better.org (although they were a stakeholder), with the work carried out by ISG.

Barcelona sounds nicer than WSM though even if a bit more of a journey. There's a weekly meetup outdoors on a Friday in Weston but it rained that evening whilst I was there.
School PTA Roller disco this weekend. Hoping it is quite chill and that other parents do skate too.

Oh no… I have wandered into a new thread.
Talking to a longboarder-neighbour last week he touched on a holiday at the coast with a long ass boulevard ideal for roller skating. I said I’d owned some aggressive inlines nearly 20 years ago that were swiftly given away.
Those things were damn heavy and didn’t inspire me to ride. At the time I know what I wanted but those were the only ones available in the local shop… so that was something like £150-200 I gave away almost BNIB after maybe two or three short goes.
It’s bothered me since, especially as I never got to ice skate as a child and I think I wanted the fun of quads anyway.
Fast forward to yesterday and a pair of old and rusty looking quads came up in my size on marketplace for a fiver. Half hour drive to the next town and I’m now the owner of these.
The bearings need replacing (or at least a soak), and the bushings eventually too but they’re otherwise solid.
Need to find my wrist guards and enough confidence to go embarrass myself somewhere.

They look to have some sims street snakes wheels on? Great find.
Reckon new bearings may be needed if all looking like bottom left as pictured.
Hope they roll well for you either way, bargain.

Excellent stuff, find those wrist protectors and knee pads, go out and enjoy the summer. where is that long ass boulevard you mention?

@rhb thanks they seemed like they were worth a punt!
The wheels show some wear but as a learner set it can’t be that bad.
I soaked the bearings in 2-stroke premix with extra chainsaw oil, and they all freed up spinning fast but loud. Soaked in more chainsaw oil and they look like there’s not much crunch.
Definitely replacing the bearings soon, but somewhat afraid they could roll faster than my ability.
The plastic was pressing on the vamp of the foot so I heated the skates with a hairdryer and got them loosening up to a bit more comfortable shape. This was a-la Bont, like a comment on previous pages about warming cycle shoes to fit.
@o_skate_love_o my dakine wrist pads are here and just need to order a full set knees/elbows.
The boulevard I’m not sure. Probably somewhere like Bournemouth. I’ll ask next time I see the skater.

Ha!
Okay bit of a delay in this journey now... I noticed one of the wheel nuts wasn't screwing in very far.
The axle on that side is many threads too short somehow. So, tightening down a little and it just sheared off the last thread (the only one the nut was biting on).
Oh well!
At least I got some spares for a fiver. The well-worn wheels have to be worth that on their own.
I guess now it's a question whether I actually buy skates and properly try.
(Edit: if I could find spare hangers it would be worth a rebuild, or just use for spares for the next pair)
(Edit edit: found some Rookie hangers dirt cheap online. Ordering a set to see if they fit. Reluctant to pay too much into these. Would be money better elsewhere maybe)

Small update. Ordered some Rookie hangers cos they’re cheap. They don’t fit the Pacer QuadCruiser plates, angle is wrong and they’re way long on the pivot… damn.
Tried to cut the pivot pin on one shorter to see but nope no good.
Wondered if I could cannibalise one somehow.
Then I thought “hang on…” and looked and it was obvious the steel axle had drifted in the OG hanger. MAYBE as I tightened it down it was pulled through.
Anyway. Taps with a mallet and boom. Hanger is okay both sides.

First time back at skating this year this evening, soooo good to be back there.

Did you get these sorted?
-
• #165
Actually no. I needed to buy a set of bushes for both shoes and got distracted with skateboards and forgot all about them.
Funny you ask, as I was tidying and found the bag with skates in earlier.

Spooky timing, hopefully you're rolling on them soon.

Finally back at Wigan, daughter regaining confidence and was skating solo. I didn't put much effort in but could fall asleep on my feet now, Covid last weekend so probably residual fatigue?

This is great news, well done. Skating solo is a big deal.

Fab post @rhb I’m contemplating heading to Barcelona in September for Love Skate Jam Festival.. what’s the chances of doing that at Weston-Super-Mare instead, weather wise still summer right?
