Ever stopped and looked at your dog's vulva
This needs posting somewhere out of context, but fuck knows where?

We haven’t as during the first couple weeks on one day we waited an hour to feed him and he threw up bile, probably out of hunger.
He is mega treat-oriented so he recalls for high value for a while but then gets hyper and bitey.
He slept a few hours this morning since getting back but unsure if he’ll allow me this afternoon on the training course (mon-fri).
Went from this, to barking.

Something very spooky about them too.

Stunning brindles! What mix is George?

I'd be impressed if that spaniel killed the deer.
But spaniels going to spaniel.
British people can be very uppity, crying about a distressing deer chase while eating their beef steak.

George's mum was greyhound, dad was deerhound x mastiff.

Gorgeous. I've got a deerhound x collie lurcher. Such great dogs.

I've always had bull breeds. Since my two luchers I'll probably only have them in the future. I do love dumb dumb Roscoe though...

Any owners of male labs out there?
Are they mad? Do they sleep? Our group of “people what bought a dog from the same people” had a WhatsApp check in yesterday “has your dog started their second season yet?” (which was a coincidence). Led to two owners telling me their male dogs don’t sleep during the day, are super energetic, one gun dog trainer has stopped working with one of the dogs.
Is that normal? It feels crazy. And makes me grateful/nervous. -

There’s definitely a phase where they’re difficult. But - by all accounts- fox reds are little fucking balls of insanity though, don’t think there’s much of a gender difference.
Just met a 12 week pup, identical to Dora, immediately triggered the urge to get another one. -

Apparently they’ve been like this forever. Which is nuts. I think I’d have given them back to the breeder and said “I’m sorry I can’t cope”.
You know if you get another one it won’t behave like Dora and will be the polar opposite.

Back at the vets again, the one eyed invincible but now blind boy is leaking blood from his arse. Possible anal polyps but waiting for a trained person rather than my internet based diagnosis.

Infected anal gland, antibiotic injection and tablets for the next ten days.
The smell was hideous, but he has been leaking it around the house for the past few days.
Also we clipped his nails, fourteen year old dog and it took me and the vet to restrain him. Fuck he is strong.

Ours doesn't love having her nails trimmed, takes one person to hold and one to clip but nothing crazy, but they're black so hard to tell how much you can cut off. When we took her to the vet the other week we asked them to trim the nails while we're there. They took her off to the room and came back looking traumatised, got knows what she did to them.

Interested in any anecdata people might have on having male hounds 'done'. Owen's an occasionally stressy adolescent (at the moment he seems to be on a 2-3 week cycle between dream dog and largely great but has a stressy few hours in the evening teenager), possibly hyper-social but plays really nicely with any dogs he encounters. He is generally a wonderful young dog and only getting better as he gets older. He does attract some ag from other male dogs (not just the cunty one), particularly smaller ones. Had assumed having him done would be a no-brainer, but the more you read the more confusing it becomes. Would love to know what others experiences have been. Also considering chemical castration, so any experience of that also appreciated. Cheers

Ours was done before adoption. First weeks he was very interested in females and very humpy… lots of lipstick. By the time the hormones wore off all that disappeared and he calmed down.
Hyper… well… lurcher so can’t say.

Had ours done at a year I think. Can't say it calmed him down but he's never been humpy.
Just a thought, have you considered - wake up, walkies with recall training using high value treats then breakfast on return from walkies. It was one of the suggestions we tried to improve recall with our dreadful sprollie, RIP. He was all for the hunt and could not give a fuck about treats when away from the house. However getting busy first thing then breakfast worked nicely and he was ready for food when we got home. Then having eaten straight to bed.
