• Link doesn’t work but yea, definitely no exercise straight after eating.

He’s currently on Natural Instinct Working Dog. Possibly part of the problem, that he’s getting too much good energy from the food and not enough outlet.

The last two months we waited an hour after eating just to walk him. Wake up at 07:00 and fed, walked no earlier than 08:30 but often 09:00.

As of last week with the recall/“running” to us, we do that an hour after breakfast. That should be enough time as it’s an enforced rest & digest from 07:00-08:30.

  • From what a recall from our rescue hounds you need a low protein food for them. Which sounds strange, but they will just build muscle and store energy there.
https://burnspet.co.uk/dog-food/original-large-giant-breed-3/ I think this is the one we had the most. But it’s sometimes marketed for “resting/injured greyhounds”
Boo! and Gracie for good measure x

  • Just a thought, have you considered - wake up, walkies with recall training using high value treats then breakfast on return from walkies. It was one of the suggestions we tried to improve recall with our dreadful sprollie, RIP. He was all for the hunt and could not give a fuck about treats when away from the house. However getting busy first thing then breakfast worked nicely and he was ready for food when we got home. Then having eaten straight to bed.
