Wow Acers sound like absolute pissbags, I feel like I see them thriving anywhere and everywhere!
-
• #13903
Yeah. Sounds like I need to file them under the Cba section of my plants list next to hostas.

They just like shelter, some shade and are slow. Japanese acers anyway. Acer campestre, the native field maple, is a badass that dgaf

Did anyone see gw winter spesh? There were some roses that have been tied is a very intricate way. I was under the impression that roses branches shouldn’t touch

Probably fine as long as they are tight and don't rub

Makita tend to be very reliable for power tools, but obviously more expensive than own branded stuff from the big retailers.
I was intending to buy one myself and IDed a Makita that looked suitable but in the end I didn't buy it and just let the garden turn into a jungle.

I’ve had the same MAC b and q hedge trimmer for about 15 years. Never had problems. Just keep it lubed after each use

Japanese quince flowers are starting to come out. Only had a couple at a totally random time last year, so quite looking forward to it flowering properly. I put a bit of general flower fertilizer a few weeks ago then some mulch. Idk if that could have helped.
Needs another wire above. A bit of a trim and shaping wouldn't go amiss, but I held off expecting to take cuttings then not getting round to it.

One of my favourite plants. I don't have one.

If I ever manage to take some cuttings and those cuttings take then I can post you some.
I really like them. My mum has a well established one (which this came from) that looks so elegant in winter with bare stems and covered in little flowers.

Was getting all excited about hellebores flowering, only to find that most of the ones I planted aren't doing shit. Turns out they need to be fairly established before they'll flower.
So in case anyone else is thinking about them for winter interest, definitely don't cheap out and make sure you get something with buds in a >1l pot.
That said I probably wouldn't have bought 4 of them at full sized price so maybe I should stop bitching.

That time of year again, anyone got any good Xmas gift ideas?
My mum has all the cool tools, so nothing in that vein.
I think her fleece is shot, so that's an option - any recommendations?
Based on the post above a cool hellebore might be a good shout, so I could do a bundle.

Glove recos from this thread. Anyone have any comments on the below. Mainly thinking about warmth for older hand. Small sizing required.
Kent and Stowe premium seed and weed (fave)
Showa 451 thermal grip
Gold Leaf dry touch leather gloves, ladies
Briers Comfi gloves
Kent and Stowe flex protect multi use

Gone with the Gold Leaf. Hoping they won't be too big or wear too quickly as some of the amazon reviews don't look great.
Still they felt more presenty.

Niwaki winter gloves are pretty peachy as well

Cheers. I'll check them out. Tempted to suggest them for me, but I'm absolutely fucking horrendous for putting my gloves back where I can find them.

Thanks! Maybe I’ll take my secateurs next time I’m there.
They are slow growers so buy the size and shape you want, dont aim to wait for it to grow.
So, definitely go and see and buy in person.
These guys have a lot of choice

As well as not getting a coloured one for full sun, don't get a dissected leaf variety. Although those are imo the nicest, they will shrivel up in full sun
