I would grab a nice 70s Lawsuit Special instead of an Epi. Like a Greco, Burny, Orville, Edwardes, etc. Just put some nice boutique P90s in and away you go.
Or this one? Wrong bridge but so cheap, cheaper than an Epiphone!

I always found secondhand US Specials to be quite reasonably priced, has that changed now the P90 cat is out of the bag?
That said, quality can be a bit iffy on the 'student' models. My white single cut junior looks like it was shaped by a blind toddler.
