Not the usual standard for this thread but the Aldi own brand Islay malt is an easy drinker at £18 a bottle.

I think Uigeadail is a bit sweeter than Corry
You’re not wrong, though I still maintain the bitterness trumps Corry.
Either way, I’m happy to be swimming in this peaty pool! -

Wrong thread, carry on. Haha

Just finished a bottle of this in time for the seasons to change - anyone seen any pre christmas bargains?
I got an email from Master of Malt about wormtub 10, anyone tried that? -
• #4431
I saw that. Sounds great for the price!

Really enjoying the Talisker port ruighe at the moment. I'm not generally a massive Talisker fan, but this is a bit more interesting and really opens up lovely with a drop of water/ice.

Really enjoying my cognac atm.
Got these two on rotation right now. Very different to each other but no matter what cognac I try they all have that distinctive finish that only cognac has.

Anyone had this before? I've had the regular Caol Ila which was pretty good
-
• #4435
Yeah tried it at the distillery, but lighter then the regular 12. Still tasty, tour guide described it as a breakfast whisky

breakfast whisky
Which is funny as I was contemplating one of these at 8 15 this morning after 1.5 hours in the rain with a dog. -
• #4437
I think I read Moch means morning.
Might take a punt on it for Christmas. Still have some of the & blah & blah & Christmas Cake from last year, very infrequent imbiber these days...

Japanese whisky for a gift for someone that likes Japanese stuff more than whisky?
ie. sexiest Japanese bottle between £50-100
There's a Fuji distillery owned by Suntory I think
-

I know vanishingly little about Japanese whisky, but this is very good - https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/nikka/nikka-whisky-from-the-barrel-whisky/
Obviously the one you shared has much nice presentation.
-

I was going to suggest Nikka from the Barrel too
(That's a good price!)

ie. sexiest Japanese bottle between £50-100
You mean the actual bottle and not the taste?
If so, probably Hibiki Harmony. It drinks easy as well.
-

Nikka days if they want something light and airy on the shelf and is relatively inoffensive to drink.

Nikka from the barrel is a funny one. Japanese regulations aren’t really strict about what can be labelled as Japanese whisky. Nikka owns Ben Navis distillery. It produces grain whisky that’s aged in bourbon barrels. This whisky is then mixed with single malt and bottled as Nikka From The Barrel.
So it’s basically scotch labelled as japanese but has American flavour.
I believed that Hibiki would be a more
Japanese gift in both presentation and in provenance. -

Yes - this is a very good point. I did read about this in the past and was quite surprised to learn it. They clearly are accomplished in making good whisky with the Nikka, but it does cross a few lines regarding the whole ‘Protected designation of origin’ type thing.
Would definitely agree on Hibiki. I’ve never sampled it personally, but it definitely is more authentically Japanese whisky. It’s the one I’ve seen a lot on Instagram a lot with the theatrical cocktail maker guy at any rate: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7RSfxGSNom/?igsh=MWIybHRieGRvcXZoeg==

Yeah, that was the other one I'd seen. Blended but sexeh bottle.
-
• #4446
Nikka From The Barrel looks like an aftershave bottle for a cult of Beckhams.
-
• #4447
Blended but sexeh bottle.
Japanese do blends well, they're expensive for what they are (like all Japanese whisky) but they generally go down well with non whisky drinkers. Plus Hibiki bottles are genuinely lovely.
-
• #4448
It also tastes kinda like aftershave but in a good way.
-
• #4449
I got the Hibiki Harmony. It was cheaper at MoM and I've now got a £5 off £50 order voucher if anyone wants it*
*for the special price of £10.**

Bargainous sweet peat https://milroysofsoho.com/products/laphroaig-10-year-old-sherry-oak-finish-48-70cl
Generally yes, but my local sells the 10 for 130 CAD while I paid about the same, all in for the Uigeadail!
