I bigged up the Esoterica channel elsewhere, then realised the forum must have a thread for this. Dr. Sledge is good value and this is the channel where I learned that, if you wanted to fix a chariot race in Ancient Egypt, you recited a prayer while drowning a cat, then wrote the race details down using mercury-based ink, rolled up the papyrus and stuck it in the dead cat's ear.
This is a rational, evidence-based exploration of mysticism and the occult; on the very few occasions Dan Brown crops up, the good doctor is very rude about him.

Stumbled on this guy's channel. He ressurects barn finds. I don't really have that much interest in mechanics but I've watched loads of his videos nonetheless. He's quite funny and charming and sometimes a bit of a twat!

I am not specifically a fan of this type of video, but Bruce is (to coin a phrase) a bloody legend.
His enthusiasm is palpable, and I keep coming back just to revel in his enjoyment. -

Liking this from '94. Equal parts The Office and American Psycho but with Vauxhall Cavaliers instead of business cards.

a bit of a nostalgia trip for those of us who grew up in the 80s.
as someone who works in CGI and graphics I can't imagine how long some of this stuff must have taken and the patience involved. -

There's several others which are all fascinating, but this one is the best. Really does paint a miserable picture of 90s Britain.

Enjoyed that too.
Not sure I agree on the flat pedals though. After decent tyres clips and shoes were probably the biggest noticeable upgrade I ever made.
Definitely right on the "go now". I've only been touring once, and I wish I'd done shorter tours earlier, rather than putting the Santiago one I did on a pedestal and worrying about trying to build the right bike for it. Which in the end I didn't do anyway.

I ride half the time in flats these days. Mostly offroad but even on road they're mostly much nicer than midfoot click clack bollocks when you're doing any walking/touring/etc :)

Really does paint a miserable picture of 90s Britain.
I mean, a miserable picture for sales reps driving up and down M4 corridor or wherever. I'm not sure it's that great today either.
That said early 90s Britain was much more 80s than I think people assume/remember. Idk about the rest of the country, but the change in London from being grey, rundown, and full of homeless people on the streets and smack heads burgling houses and steeling bits off your car to a vibrant modern city by the end of the decade was staggering.
It's incredibly depressing that London today now has those same levels of visible homelessness again.

Yes, shoes designed for cleats are worse for walking in.
-
• #874
and shoes designed with cleats often seem to lead to problems for people riding longer distances in... and newbies falling over in them... and increase the cost to entry and... we can do this all day now coz I'm back in the "office" :-*
