Time VXS. 2006. XL

  • Hello hello

I would like to sell my Time VXS in XL (58) from 2006. The frame module was £3500 from shorter roachford then, which was a lot at the time though in the contemporary market it will buy you a mid range Raleigh e shopper.
It has been in dry storage in Brussels, unridden since I would say 2014 and I have just emptied that storage back to me in London.

It was their spring classics bike with a slightly longer wheelbase, more compliant frame and clearance for a whopping 28c tyre.
I managed to get a 30 on the front just now. I think 28 is max on the back.

It has mis-matched wheels since I got the dura ace front and gave the matching front to friend to borrow now ten years ago. It needs a tune up as the shifting is currently pretty ghastly but other than that it is rideable.

    No idea what to ask.
Is £450 good/bad/indifferent? Any Qs please ask away.

  • did they ever do a 60cm xxl?

  • Oh the group set is ultegra from the time, side entrance brifters. Deda newton handlebars. Super light 10s to ambrosio hand built rear, which was a classics style wheelset in the era and a dura ace front. It has look keo non fancy pedals and I can give some shoes and cleats if needed.

  • I think they did on paper but maybe special order or something. This worked for me and I’m a long legged 6’4” (98cm inseam) so I actually used a longer seatpost than the time one it came with, you know, to get more aero. :/

  • Astounding bargain. I don’t think bikes got much better than this. Too big for me but glws

  • Really nice to have one so original.
I've got a VX edge, it's one I'll always keep. To me it feels like the perfect balance in a bike. And the tubes have a decent wall thickness so feel very durable without being heavy.
    I'm using 25c but I think 28c will work.
How is the edge different to the VXS if you don't mind me asking?

  • You have PM

  • Well, you are digging into the far reaches of the memory here. I think the vx edge was a slightly less complex model and more pure road than this. The VXS and the VXRS had strangely multi profiled down tubes which I remember was pretty unusual in carbon. This one also had some material called vectran in it which was to add flex and take the sting out of the cobbles.

  • Thanks for the information. I did some more reading too and it seems the 'Edge ' is the 'cheaper' model isn't it.
There's an interesting article for the new buyer about the differences between Vectran fibres and Kevlar here: https://osnf.com/vectran-vs-kevlar/
There's a great video on youtube of somebody analysis a TIME frame that is cut in half, it's good.

    Hope it sells quickly.

  • Such a sick bike. Glwts

  • Thanks @Fishfabs + @hugo7. It is a lovely bike to ride. A bad knee, an extra 15kg and a kid means it future should not lay with me, but hopefully it will find a home.

I hadn’t thought about looking on YouTube about it. I loved the hill climb bike build- the DIY side of that scene is so so good.

  • I’m going to move this to evilbay at the weekend. Does the price seem fair?

    Cheers!

  • The time of year will play a big part I imagine.
The frameset photographed nicely with the stem/seatpost could fetch good money, but it's hassle to do.
This is my lower-model VX Edge to contribute to the buyer appeal maybe.

  • Replied.
Didn’t I hear that mid 00’s road bikes are the next 90’s mtbs. 😃

  • @Fishfabs that is a great looking racing bike. If 28c is good enough for the pros it is good enough for mere mortals.

  • Thanks! I tend to 'struggle along' on the inside ring :)
Yeah, these are 25's and actually feel fine on this bike, it seems to handle the bumps well. I've got a Reynolds 753 steel bike that feels harder on the knocks, could be bars and wheels though (or my imagination).

  • Moving this to the bay. :(
