  • I've currently got a 2-bay NAS at home for file backups and my kid's TV shows/films. It's currently running with mirrored drives and getting low on space.

Upgrading to larger drives seems like a relatively costly option, and I can see a few decent 4x4TB options second-hand for £300-400 (I could get 2x8TB drives for my existing NAS for a similar price). And of course the 4x4TB option will yield greater storage capacity than the 2X8TB option.

Seems like a slam dunk for buying a 4-bay NAS right?

Yep. If you'd consider an old QNAP TS-431P I've been meaning to upgrade mine to one with more bays. Good condition, obviously without any drives in it. They're going for £150 on eBay but I'd take £100 (plus postage from SW15) from a forumenger.

Actually, just seen the prices of 8-bay rackmountable NAS and I'll stick with mine for now!
