  • Custom made ones I brazed up myself. I have a small hatred for adjustable racks 😂

The front one used to just hold the wald basket, so it was a quick last minute adjustment to adapt it for panniers. Turned out a bit boxy looking, but it's doing the job.

  • @kjlem, I always climb with my nose touching the front wheel.

No, didn't bother. Even when climbing 15% roads the wheel stayed where I wanted it to be.

Some day I want to do this with carbon fibre. Chop up some tubes and glue them. How hard can it be?

  • My partner and I are touring the US and down into Mexico right now.

Will be ditching the Ortliebs in San Diego and going with mini panniers / dry bag on top of rack for Baja Divide.

  • My set up for 4 days in Scotland this coming weekend (Inverness>Corrour via torridon) - a chance to test my first attempt at sewing a frame bag… staying in hostels each night so I’m packing light, but feels weird carrying so little! Would really like a fork with mounts for cages, but having to make do with a bottle in a stem pouch for now.

  • Nice! Where about are you now?

I’d love to go back to Baja and do the divide route.

  • That's a very neat fitting frame bag 👍

  • We are in Yakima about to head to the Dalles to have a crack at the Oregon Outback route. Just come east across Washington on the Palouses to Cascades trail which was amazing.

Slept in a canyon last night - shot attached of the roll into town just now.

Was thinking of making a thread but I’m also lazy

  • Don't know about difficulty, but unless you're doing a completely custom lay up, I doubt you'll make it lighter than with alu stubes

  • Baja Divide setup - feels solid as fuck.

I’m just about to start the Valle de Los Cirios section and will be throwing a couple of two litre bottles on the forks. Should have 12.75 litres capacity!

  • Nice set up - how you found the Baja so far?

  • The Baja 1000 race ran finished the day before I left Tecate so the northern sections have been rough as fuck. It’s been fun but I’m hoping it gets a shade smoother from here.

The views and the people have been great. Vegetarian food out is surprisingly hard to get although I have very limited Spanish so maybe I’m just an idiot.

  • Looks amazing, I’m dreaming of being back on the trail.

I think chilaquiles are about the only veggie option we found in restaurants - otherwise eggs/rice/beans. I’m sure you’ve had your fair share packet frijoles with tortillas by now, pretty much the perfect bikepacking food.

If you go to a Ley supermarket they usually have soy chorizo and sometimes tofu.

Food gets much better once you hit the mainland - look out for gorditas de nopal (masa pouch stuffed with cactus leaves).

  • Thanks for the reply - good tip on the chilaquiles! I’ve been managing to eat in restaurants a bit more as my Spanish/miming has improved which is nice.

A couple more photos (sorry for clogging the thread!)
