  • Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M TLR

Partner has these on their bike, nothing bad to say about them!
There was also this shop doing half price teravail, might be something left in a size/pattern you want.

  • Not brilliant in slop, but otherwise a good all-rounder in my experience

  • When they came out the Cinturato was the go to tyre, in the last year or so they don’t get the same love as people want something more supple and faster feeling.
I’ve got some Challenge Strada Bianca, spendy and a fuck to fit, but soooo nice

  • Tufo Swampero HD. Around £30 a tyre delivered. They get very good reviews and feedback on forums as do the Thundero versions.

  • I'm on Vittoria Mezcals at the moment. Disclaimer: they're the only nobbly gravel tyre I've used. I really rate them though. Good grip and fast on and off road.

  • Thanks guys... I've used Gravel Grinders in the past (Challenge) that were great but wouldn't be amazing in mud. I'm looking for 40-42 size wise, so I might look at the Mezcals and the Cinturatos.

  • Second the Mezcals. The closest tyre I've found to be good in all conditions. Good grip off road even in a fair bit of mud but without giving up too much speed or grip on the road. Big fan of them.

  • so I might look at the Mezcals and the Cinturatos.

Get Mezcals over Cinturatos if planning to ride in mud.

Vittoria also make Terreno Mix 40, 45 and 50 they roll well and have slightly more bite in the mud than Mezcals

  • Thanks fella! I'll have a look at those now.

  • Has anyone tried the Vredestein Aventura? The look prettier than the Schwalbe G-One Allround and are only £5 more each. Not many reviews online, but all of the ones I read seem to like them.

Also, can someone please tell me the difference between these? Is it the puncture proof layer? I am stumped. Both seem very popular but I'm just not sure how they differ aside from the price.

  • One’s tubeless, one isn’t?

  • In the reviews many people seem to be running the £35 one tubeless.

  • There are loads of different versions of G One Allround: different compounds, puncture protection, folding/rigid, tubeless/non tubeless, different model years, very confusingly listed. As well as obvs sizes and sidewall colour.

I really rate the 27.5 x 2.25 which I got from Merlin here for £20. Listed as performance, raceguard, dual compound, same as your first link. Microskin is meant to be more premium but in what respect I dont know.

Not used them tubeless yet but they have TLE written on them

  • Thank you for the info :) Yes - Even checking the Schwalbe website I am extremely confused still.

    https://www.schwalbe.com/en/blog/news/innovation/schwalbe-protection-benchmark-of-puncture-protection/

RaceGuard is rated 4, and Tubeless Easy (TLE?), which apparently includes SnakeSkin or MicroSkin, is rated 6. But on that page, in the "TUBELESS EASY" section, click on " Schwalbe G-One Allround" and it mentions nothing about SnakeSkin or MicroSkin on that page - only RaceGuard. So that is very confusing. Anyway, headache.

Leaning towards the Vredestein Aventura, just because the only variants are the size and colour (nice and simple), and I think they look lovely too. I prefer the logos / text on them vs the Schwalbe. Also the tread pattern is prettier, IMO, and doesn't look like an anime monster with 1000 nipples.

  • 21mm internal rims, 28mm external - what Corsa Pro width should I be going for these days? Bearing in mind my last bike could only take 23mm max. I thought 28 because they'll look more balanced, but 30mm is going to be comfier and I'm all for that these days

  • Deep rims? If so then not too wide otherwise you lose a lot of the aero benefit.

Shallow rims, go as wide as your frame will allow and enjoy the comfort!

  • 40mm deep. I don't believe in aero gainz on bikes, because I'm a very non-aerodynamic human shaped object

  • Well I think you've answered your own question then, go as wide as the frame will allow. Honestly, bikes don't look much different with 28's or 32's.

  • Bit blanket as it depends on the rim. I'm running 35mm tyres (madness) on my 35mm external Roval front road wheel.

The aero benefit/loss is also only really relevant to the front wheel, so clever little cookies like me would run the best aero/Crr combo up front and the best Crr/comfort combo in the back.

  • go as wide as the frame will allow

    Yep... bigger IS better.

At least until you push it too far, ride through some slop and lose your chainstay paint...

  • I feel the weight/drag or added friction from the wider contact patch starts to overshadow the benefits of comfort going beyond 38c... On asphalt at least, anything below that feels pretty negligible

  • Pedal harder, weaklings.

I run 50mm on the road now because anything less is for children and retiree cylotourists.

  • Here’s an easy question.
What are the fastest tyres for a Brompton? They are for an F24 car that I’m helping out with. It’s gone from 20” conti’s (as suggested here previously) to 16” kojak I’m sure there’s a faster rolling tyre, but there seems to be a difference of opinion on what it is.
(Photo for reference only it’s not the actual car) Thank you.

  • Schwalbe One's set up tubeless I think... come on some of the chpt3 Brompton and I can't imagine there's much faster out there in that size

  • Thank you they do look like the fasted, but may wear a bit to quickly for team funds. Which is a shame.
