the filter to slip in is 496x496mm - the box will look like this
The maximum dimension of any given piece would be around 510mm

Hi all,
Any recommendations on a great corded plunge router?
Bosch Professional GKF 600 w/ plunge base seems like a good option but not sure what to go for?
Bonus points for Black Friday cheaps. -

How industrial do you need to be? Is it a big job, hard wood etc etc
-
• #2383
Probably not super industrial, mostly guitar building stuff so more about precision but also some hardwoods...
-
• #2384
Most of the branded ones will do the job - spend your money on good quality router bits, particularly if you're plunge cutting

I would recommend the OF1010 but it might be eyewateringly expensive these days. Make sure you are not going to want 1/2 inch shank stuff like worktops because the 1/4 inch routers won't do that.

I recently bought a router attachment for my dremel. I’ve not tried it yet but I think it will be very precise

I've actually got a nice dremel but it's battery rather than corded so probably not ideal for lots of work... have looked at those StewMac router bases though.
Could you link the router base you went for?

The combi DeWalt is really good. I rarely use mine now though, just go straight to the 1/2” big brother

Swordfish have done a good job.
The plans were slightly off on the top panel, I'll cut the bits off and glue it on

That's very nice. What's the lid wood?

Something a bit different on the stick making front for me. The farmer whose land I am surrounded by has given me his great-grandfathers' rams horn crook handle (c1900 by simple maths) to rebuild. It had cracks, had slightly lost shape and is
bias cut. It also had a patina of century old varnish flakes.Anyway, I have heated it, returned it to shape, filled the cracks and polished it. Now the 'fun' part, because it is bias cut the stick fitting into it must be very precisely hand-carved in every direction, it must also be within 0.5mm of the diameter of the handle because of the wall thickness. Just to make my life more difficult I decided on a hazel stick because it would look good, meaning I can't be out in any direction or the bark would have to go.
So far, so good....

Didn’t think much to the dremel router attachment. Not very consistent.
I think I’m going to bastardise a better guide

The guide doesn't exactly look precision made. Your fingernail cleanliness is, however, aspirational.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's 'bias cut'?
Does anyone know of an affordable laser cutting service? I'm planning on making an air filter box, and need all of this cut on 3mm plywood. Ideally in London, but don't mind travelling (I need to get out more)
