  • Get well soon mate. Ankle fractures can do one

  • Ouch, hope you heal fast & well.

  • Ahhhh, fuck dude. Heal up well and quickly.

  • Grim. Hope you heal quickly!

  • Just in time for Christmas. Ho ho ho.

    Hope you heal fast!

  • Thanks @duncs and @doubleodavey for the suggestions, but she suffers from social anxiety due to her autism, so she wants to be able to exercise where no-one can see her.

  • avulsion fracture of the fibula

    Heal well!

Had an avulsion fracture of the tibia (so the inside of the ankle not the outside) a couple of years ago. Just randomly happened whilst I was playing 5-a-side, went to change direction and just heard a clicking sound followed by mild pain. Minor injuries, x-ray, crutches for a couple of days, no boot. Rest for a few months and then gentle physio to get it stronger again. Was back playing 5-a-side 5 months later without any further problems with it.

  • Oh man. That sucks but just make healing properly your mission from now. The time will pass faster than it’ll initially seem to.
Plus you get to skip all the shit weather.

  • Heal fast. I had similar. Don't want to try it again.

  • Thanks all for the messages. Feeling a bit brighter today.

This one stung a little more as I had stopped running some years ago because of ongoing knee pain, but finally this year seemed to have got on top of it. Completed my first half for 6 years in October, was running ~20kms a week and was actually looking forward(!) to running over the winter. Hopefully will be able to get back on it in the new year. With no riding or running, I certainly have a lot more time on my hands!

  • so almost 2 years after fracturing and dislocating my ankle, and after 18 months of NHS physio, a steroid injection, a whole load of powerpump and legs, bums and tums classes, loads of swimming and Zwifting, I thought I'd go for a nice run today.

It was nice for about 6 miles, then i slipped in some mud and got some decent gashes on my knee. Photo available on request

  • Bad luck, but I am glad the punchline wasn't that you broke your leg

  • I was wondering as I rolled about on the floor. Thankfully not

  • Surely offering to send pictures of your gash is a banning offence

  • there's more than one

  • Sunken forefoot recovery. 6 month since the sunk and special soles was made (costs more than shoes). Glad to report I'm pretty much cured.

  • Sunken forefoot

    Any idea on the cause?

  • Any idea on the cause?

Pretty sure some very heavy unusual (for me) construction work, paired with 1 minute all out hill sprints in the same week caused the sunk.

  • Quick update on my new Garmin coach:

Currently in week 6 of 8, in the 'peak phase' until 5 Dec, tapering from 5 - 15 Dec.

I followed the recommended daily workout pretty religiously for the first ~4 weeks (mainly lots of base). Between twisting my knee at the pub and life being busy means I've gone a little off program in the last two weeks. Based on my garmin 'load', my extra curricular runs have generally been harder but I've had a few extra rest days (garmin coach has one rest day a week).

I'm slightly skeptical I will hit my target time as things stand - and even less confident if I'd just followed the recommended workouts, given the load has been relatively low (per Garmin). I've had a few anaerobic sessions at quicker than race pace but have otherwise mainly been had base and a handful of tempo/threshold workouts between base pace and race pace.

I'm not sure if this is a 'trust the process' moment? I'm tempted to continue doing a few interesting/quicker/challenging runs as well.

  • Sorry to invade the running thread as a non runner! My step dad bloody loves it though and I'd like to get him something for Christmas. My mum has suggested a long sleeve top of sorts. What's the Rapha of running? I think he'd like something pretty versatile so maybe something to wear on it's own when it's milder and under another layer when it's cold. Maybe merino?
    Any suggestions very much appreciated!
