I really like the texture of that. Good shot.

Thanks.
I learned today that shooting monotone in raw just shows colour in software...
Dunno if it's better to Raw / edit, or just use JPEGs with monotone.

For the few months I've been taking photos I've done monochrome / jpegs. Though literally tonight I was chatting with a much more experienced photographer who said I'm better shooting raw and converting.
I think it's personal taste. I know for me, so far, if I know I'm shooting BnW I look at things differently and take better pictures because of it.

I always have the preview screen black and white as it helps get idea of what you will have at the end but shoot raw and convert it later. You have more control over the outcome with raw if you’re happy doing the work in post to get it where you want.

This is what I do too... Although I always anticipate converting to b/w when processing the RAW, I find that it often makes for very good (better?) photos in colour at the end of the day. I suspect I'm probably not very good at the post-processing (for b/w - or for colour!) but the other thing that using a b/w preview gives me is a feeling for the form and structure (lines etc) within the photograph.

I've yet to start playing around with doing anything in post yet really, beyond basic straightening. Want to learn to do as much in the camera first, before I then start thinking about editing.

Nice - what film is that? The light in the first one looks unreal.

First one is Kentmere 400 pushed one stop. Woke up at like 4am so cycled over to the Washington & Lincoln memorials.
Middle two are FP4+1 and the last is 120HO5 at box speed.

Enjoying walking around with camera set to f2.8, 1/50 and about 400iso and seeing what comes out.
