When I spoke to BETD about ordering the Middleburns they said you can use the R02 incy spider with R01 cranks, you just need a wider bottom bracket to sort the chainline.
29/32 or 29/34 is plenty low enough for most hills (as long as you're not dragging the kitchen sink along). -

Fully sick

I haven't stopped staring at it all evening, I think it should look rather pleasant when built up.
-
• #56
Really cool! Are you waiting on any more bits or good to go?
-
• #57
That certainly does sparkle. How much tyre clearance does it have?

Which I most likely will be as use case is possibly taking the toddler on an overnighter next summer. Will run them 1x while I try and gain some fitness back.
Took a look at them the other night and decided to strip the remaining anodising off and give them a polish up. I know this is a fools errand, especially on an off-road bike bike, but they'll look good at least once.
This is gonna sound like I'm throwing shade but it's really not: I had almost identical paint on my old Pearson Touché. It was the one thing I really liked about that frame. At no point did it look as tidy as that though.

@Browndonneur , I'm pretty sure I've got everything, lbs are fitting the crown race for me today, so I'll pop the headset in tonight, and maybe the bottom bracket..........
@Five-Hats , haven't measured the actual width between stays, but should easily accommodate a 45mm, it was designed for 38mm + guards .
@Polygon , the finish does look really good, can't wait for Saturday, that'll be the first time I'll see it in daylight. -

I love this: 9 speed, silver spokes, Novatec hubs, long reach brakes and 39mm tyres. Perfected choices
-
• #61
Glad you approve of my component choices.
38-40mm tyres are the perfect size for comfortable cake hunting adventures. -

Headset is fitted, went in nicely.
Bottom bracket did not, think I got it every so slightly on the piss, so rather than risk another bb I'm going to take the frame to the lbs, see if they'll chase the threads for me, then grab another bb off them. -

Great stuff!

Err... you've seen the forecast, right? 🤣
-
• #65
A fair point, well made.
Can't wait to see it in daygloom, rather than nightgloom. -
• #66
Any updates on the BB situation?
-
• #67
Kinda.
Frame is on the way back to Winston for further investigation. -

What of the BB issue? Hopefully no threads stripped/hearts broken
-
• #70
No threads stripped, heart not broken, although I did contemplate having a bit of a cry Saturday afternoon, all resolved now.
-
• #71
Contemplative cries are the best. Yay you!! Just in time for the weekend and to agonise over another part of the build...

Exciting

Expect this will look amazing in daylight

@vthejk rest of the build should be pretty straightforward, bars, shifters, saddle, and top cap off my Mr Wooden tomorrow evening, mudguards have already been re-radiused, so a first fit tomorrow evening, then a quick check bolts are ok, if not a trip to the local boltmonger Saturday morning.
@kjlem it's certainly getting that way.
@Yemble it does, when I took it to the lbs last Saturday it looked rather pleasing.
Well jealous! I'd love a long reach brake steel road bike. Excited for this!
