Has anyone used wetsuit gloves before? Or very warm cycling specific neoprene gloves? I had a Raynauds nightmare this morning.
I love my Sealskinz lobster gloves but they're not good when it's really wet. I'm determined to commute by bike as much as possible this winter (I can't face the train more often than I have to) and I reckon gloves that are good when it's cold AND wet are the missing piece of the puzzle.
Dexterity isn't really an issue because I don't need to be able to shift gears.
As mentioned, I have raynauds so need to be warm as fuck. I was wondering if something designed to keep you warm in the north sea might also keep me warm pootling a long the Waterlink Way. -

Frankly they are rubbish and worse than your lobsters . Get some warmers on to keep your wrists warm .

Ah, good but disappointing to know! Maybe I just need to accept that I don't have the circulation to ride in the pissing rain when it's cold. The lobsters were great this morning until they soaked through, at which point my hands turned to blocks of ice.

I’ve used neoprene santons for “racing cross” and “fucking he’ll it’s wet eh? Winter riding”. They’re good for about 2 hours . If I find my pair I’ll lend them to you.

I know this won't work with lobsters but how about a pair of XL marigolds/rubber gloves over a normal pair of gloves? Not classy but they should be waterproof.

Lies.

That'd be great, thank you! My commute is an hour each way so 2 hours of warmth is plenty.

Hmmm, might be worth a go. At least a pair of bright yellow gloves would make hand signals more visible.

It was some fucking years ago. Before the dog. Before Covid probably.

Wait! I remember when I wore them. I still had the arkose, it was over a Christmas I think between 2020-24. I was supposed to go out with ginger chris. It was just me. It rained for over two hours and my whatever the gabba is called now eventuallybcrapped out too.
I rode up that fucking warlingham hill from the station. -

I have some Lomo ones somewhere. They're OK but leave your hands a bit stinking and wrinkly. I run pretty warm though so not sure how they'd be in your case.

Not classy
This is LFGSS, my friend.

I'm already pretty stinky but I could stand to be wrinklier. I'd happily put up with that if it meant toasty hands! My hands are still fucked from yesterday morning.
Anyway, curiosity got the best of me and I've ordered a pair of cheap secondhand, thick wetsuit gloves. Worth a punt for £12 I reckon.

I've just ordered some cheap heated gloves from AliExpress.
I already use heated insoles when it's cold and they are great, so got to be worth a try.

The best neoprene cycling gloves I've used are Velotoze. The new version has an extra layer of rubber around all the seams too. With silk liners underneath they're great in pissing rain. But still not warm enough if it's freezing too.
My 45nrth Sturmfist 4 gloves are the warmest I've used, but if it's pissing it down they get soaked and then eventually cold.
I have to say though... As much as I hate pogies visually, it was minus 3 this morning and I was still gloveless inside them. For that I can deal with the aesthetics. 😍 -

Does layering gloves help with keeping warmer for longer? Was thinking of buying a pair of large ski gloves and then wearing some soft wool gloves under that like a liner..

What about using some Rooster Hot Hands sailing gloves - they seem to suggest they're good on their own or inside thicker overgloves. Anyone tried those? (as I'm saying this I'm sure this is ringing a bell of something I might have suggested before in this thread!)

^ if they work, the socks versions might work for my frosty toes!

I occasionally wear latex gloves under my lobsters if it's really cold. I can't remember where I saw the article or remember the science from it but having a non breathable layer next to the skin (even a very thin and otherwise non insulating one) is supposed to be a good way to retain heat. It seems to work for me anyway.

Does layering gloves help with keeping warmer for longer?
Yes - I often use merino gloves as an inner layer and I'm sure they help. I have got the Dissent gloves, which work on 3 layers.

This is a fairly common solution among ultralight hikers and mountaineers. I did a week long hike in negative temperatures with just a pair of rubber gloves and a pair of wool liners. Showa (industrial hand protection manufacturer) 812 gloves are recommended so often that they started selling them in black and actually went ahead and created an outdoor sports product line.
Definitely not for fashion conscious peeps. -

is there a go to - waterproof, winter glove?
I'm thinking of getting these,
https://www.galibier.cc/product/barrier-deep-winter-cycling-gloves/
as I'm going to be out and about on the bike this winter, they've got the cold weather aspect down, road cc review ( https://road.cc/content/review/269665-galibier-barrier-deep-winter-gloves ) says "The softshell outer layer resists water for a while, but if it's really bucketing down it eventually gets through."
As the bucketing down part is when you want the gloves to keep your hands dry.
Any alternatives out there I should be looking at or are winter warm and waterproof gloves an oxymoron? -

I think, and others might disagree/agree here, that you can have cold and dry or you can have cold and wet. But having cold, wet, and dry in a glove is a bit of a unicorn and $£$£$£$£$£$.
Generally, when I ride bikes outdoors (fuck off Andy) it goes like this:
Durafeet gloves when its about 10+ and dry
Some form of more insulated winter glove from 5 - 10 with some form of waterproofing (decathlon ones have been good here - the 900 variant, i'm guessing they have a van rysel now)
Lobsters when it's definitely under 5 (planet x ones were good here)
Neoprene if it's raining and below 10 (santini)
Yes I would love that please and promise to use them and report back!
