  • Balls. Did a few longer runs in the week and Friday a long-ish one in the morning. Felt fine and went through the day but towards evening a pain in my front lower shin had developed. This has grown after a short slow jog on Saturday and small walking. I can actually hear the tendon creaking when I move my foot up and down so pretty sure it's shin splints.

Real bummer but what now? I'll have to do a bit of walking to get to the office and was thinking I'd go for a swim to see if that helps. I can see plenty of stretches and rehab exercises for once the initial pain subsides but not sure how much of that I can do now. Are there any gentle movements that will help?

  • Ballet plie (spelling?) squats

Edit: not strictly pliƩ squats, but heels together, off the floor, bend your knees and squat.

I also had a load of dry needling done in the affected area, and it heeled up enough for me to.continue marathon training, and quite possibly run a PB

  • Cheers for this, also to Chack and Alf0nse. It's my first shinsplint and came as a surprise as I've been pretty careful about the 10% weekly increase, mobility, progression running mainly... Felt like I'd been hoofed in the shin on Saturday and Sunday but calming now. Still limping a bit but my physio helped a lot yesterday and I hope to do some treadmill on Friday and see how that goes.

It's a bummer but if any week's not a bad one to sit out it's when snow and sleet arrive. Just really hoping that I can get back at it soonish and it won't be an interminable or recurring problem. Doing all the shin splinty exercises right now.
