Range anxiety diminished, but at the cost of wondering how upset the bike gets at going flat out.
8.6 miles loop with a little play around this spot near Potterne. Must have used a litre maybe a bit more. Barely got any of the 2L jerry into the tank when home.

The mesh imo, is there to protect from stones kicked up from the front wheel. I'd add a fender extender as the rad fins also fill up with road dirt.
Never thought of the fire guard.

Thruxton RS incoming.
Forum "mates rates" available on my Monkey, which sadly has to make way for the incoming bike.
DM me if you fancy a deal...

That’s NICE! it’s got all the right bits too. If only. GLWS

Thank you. It really is a lovely thing. And I'll be sad when it goes. That said, I do need to sell it, so the lfgss price would be £3,200. I think any lower than that and I'll find a way of keeping it.
There are cheaper monkeys for sale but I think the rare colour scheme, Yoshi low age/mileage and remainder of the service plan make mine worth the extra. -

For sure. It’s a shame to sell but you need to do what’s right.
I ran fresh fuel through the DR for the first time in a couple months. Greenlaned the 50 mile round trip back to Swindon. Reminded myself why it’s a tough bike to replace.
New HJC helmet is very comfortable as well. Much more than the LS2, bit tighter. I miss the visor though.

That looks like a supreme way to spend a weekend. Gotta make more effort to find more lanes.

It’s a route I know with my eyes closed, which helps because the way back was so bad that between fallen leaves and misty rain I couldn’t see!

Another downside to central London... Takes ages to get to anything to enjoy a dual sport.
How was the SL?
-
• #26386
I didn’t have time to test the SL, because of this **** rescue dog that is doing my nut.
My escaping on the Sherco/DR was only thanks to Mrs being home so I had a couple hours of freedom.

Witnessed a pretty bad motorbike accident this morning. Bloke on an SV650 went over the front of a Toyota Corolla. He was awake and talking but his back and left leg started hurting as the adrenaline wore off. I stayed for about 30 mins whilst police arrived and took details.
Probably 60:40 on the bike. He overtook me, on the wrong side of a traffic island doing 35-40 (in a 20) about 5 seconds before the crash. The driver was Uber I think and had dropped off a passenger and was rejoining the road going in the opposite direction. A lorry had let the driver go across him and the bike didn't see until it was too late and couldn't slow down. Reckless from both parties.
He was lucky he hit the front of the car at an angle and went over the bonnet rather than side on otherwise I think it would have been much worse.
Hope he's on the mend soon. Fingers crossed it's a learning moment for both.

Bikers doing traffic islands on the wrong side is high up on my hate list.
From your description it sounds more than 60% the bikes fault. -

What @kilo24 said.
It’s always tough when in a clique to blame on a member of that clique… always easier to hate the cager. Problem is that sometimes people make awful decisions and they aren’t doing themselves the best.
From memory if his actions leading up to the event were taken into account by any party (ie police, insurer) he would find himself with lion’s share responsibility even if the moment of impact wasn’t his fault.
The moment they decide he was going over 20, in a 20, he’s done for anyway.

The car came out from behind a stopped lorry with no visibility of traffic when the light was green / going amber, heading the opposite direction to traffic.
I would say he has blame for the incident though there's weighting towards the bike for sure.
Having watched a few legal eagle episodes on 44teeths channel, I don't believe speed is a black and white factor in judgement though it's obviously a serious thing to consider.
The police have already called me, taken further details and asked for a formal statement as they don't have CCTV which is incredible given how built up the area is. I will of course give a statement for what I saw.

Might not be best to discuss an accident with so much detail that could be used against them

Is this an issue when cycling or driving?

Don't mention what happened before.
Just the accident, how do you know they were going above 20.

Bit more progress on the Triumph…I’ve still many little jobs to do, which I’ve been putting off in favour of floss. It does go well now, despite the rotten flat spot from the TT pipes.
Don't hate on the brown seat - it was free!

This is the important bit, but you are deciding whose fault it is.
So vehicle pulling out without a clear view of the road, yet you blame the motorcycle as he did things in the past that made you unhappy.
Do you see what the issue is?

14.5 years ago a taxi driving faster than 30 in a 30, hit me as I crossed. I was on a skateboard, and crossed some 20yd up the road from a pedestrian crossing. Previously skateboarding over said crossing I had a police officer tell me they could slap a fine on me for cycling in the town (bylaw forbids it), so I always used a road junction. I flew some distance. I have nerve damage in my left hand that never healed.
I was never able to claim compensation, and the driver didn’t even receive a caution.
Reason? The compensation people told refused to progress, because there was a “witness statement” (I got a copy) that stated:
“I DID NOT SEE THE INCIDENT. I was waiting at the bus stop. He should have used the crossing” - written by a lady in her 60’s.
What’s my point? I wasn’t at fault in any way shape or form, but the words on a witness statement allowed the driver to avoid any charge AND any compensation that his insurance would have covered.
TL/DR. Only write the bare essentials of the impact. Even if he was riding like a scrote.

For me it’s mainly an issue when either crossing the road or riding the motorbike (some fuckwit delivery scooter tosser doing a stupid overtake by going the side of a traffic island). I don’t drive that much in London anymore and on my bicycle I’m probably more away from their trajectory.
I think it’s a particularly dangerous manoeuvre. -

Mate, you chat some nonsense on here sometimes and this is right up there.
To cover off your points briefly:
- I know the speed as I glanced at my speed (22 indicated), 1-3 seconds before he passed me as a noticed him pulling toward my back wheel and looking around me approaching the traffic island. This is corroborated by the speed rating on my Datatool tracker. As he passed me, he was travelling anywhere between 1.5 and 2x my speed and accelerating as was clearly evident by the sound of his revs increasing
- This was not ‘in the past’. It was around 2-4 seconds between him passing me and the impact.
- It did not make me unhappy. It made my wary of his behaviour to the point that I checked my speed and adjusted my road position to avoid him.

Sounds grim, hope you're ok witnessing it. Sounds fully on the Uber driver really, the bikers precious can't be held against them. Hope they make a good recovery.
I still remember seeing a rider die infront of me, won't ever leave my memory. Bleak.
Just look for an old fire guard off marketplace and tin-snip it to size?
Would go for fine as possible without restricting airflow. Wanna avoid the bugs getting through when you rossi to starbucks.
