That does mean you’re still in brooks and they’re not pretty
-
• #30903
Hah, I've almost come around to accepting I just buy Brooks again to be honest...
Is that UK 11? -

I'll have a look at my current pairs and get back to you later on, can't remember if they're 10.5 or 11 UK.

Is this still available?

After wearing my Altra Escalantes into the ground and Hoka Cliftons giving me some knee pain I got myself a pair of Altra Vanish Tempo. Nice wide toe box and perfect for me on the couple of 5ks I've done since Saturday. Rant over.

Really rated Pearl Izumi trail shoes. Shame they stopped making them.
Anyone know of a shoe with a similar profile/feel to the PI trail N2? Had a wee bit more flex than other shoes I’ve tried -

With winter forecast to hit with a bang in Ireland next week I’m looking at picking up a few bits to make it more bearable. Sealskinz waterproof socks and shoe dryer ordered.
Any recommendations on a really good waterproof jacket? I’m open to dropping a decent amount on something really good in the hope that it’ll last a few winters.
Also, any waterproof tight recommendations? Are they a thing in running? Something like the nanoflex cycling stuff

Waterproof socks with merino inners if you're hiking/ fastpacking for 3hrs+ else htfu.
Similar for leggings. Alpkit Khoulin Trail tights I'd recommend.
Jacket, useful for slower effort runs or being out on the fells else plenty of merino layers & maybe a windproof gillet could be enough.
I do own and use a lightweight Montane jacket but very rarely when running. It will last a few years before it delaminates so good vfm.

Patagonia Houdini comes to mind.
I got two Salomon rain jackets (for running), first was a "Bonatti" (I think the trail version), second was a Gore Tex one (they don't do anymore / right now, it seems) - both are good, the Gore Tex one is amazing actually.
In regards to running in shit weather I also heard good things about the Adidas jackets.

I have a bib for Valencia but am after getting injured and can't run. Obviously last minute but if you know anyone looking for a bib let me know.
-
• #30914
Don't you need to collect? Or does it get sent to you like in ye olde days?
-
• #30915
I think there’s an option for both. Basically I give you a code that allows you to buy my bib straight from them. There’s no way for me to just send it directly to you

Question for ya.
I’d like a watch to record some data. I’d also like it to have music storage capabilities as I don’t run with phone. Any such thing exists that’s actually SMALL. I’m talking Fitbit small. I’ll only likely be wearing it when doing the sports.

Garmin Venu Sq is what I've got which does all of the above, plus a bit more if you wanted it to

Oh yes. That’s bang on point. Exactly what I’m looking for.

Bath Hilly Half today. Not sure where I placed, would be happy with 50th
I went our way too fast and did the exciting single track descent with the lead pack. Then I had a word with myself. I’m in my 50s I’m not a superhero. So I chilled out and spent the next hour and a half getting overtaken.
It’s my third fastest time but only a couple of minutes slower than my previous run 6 years ago.
So yeah 1:55 with 500+m of elevation is still ok.
Also absolutely spanked my kids’ teacher who is regarded as the Healthy Fit Dreamboat.
On the downside experienced brutal post-race stomach cramps and violent liquid shit. Never had that before.

Balls. Did a few longer runs in the week and Friday a long-ish one in the morning. Felt fine and went through the day but towards evening a pain in my front lower shin had developed. This has grown after a short slow jog on Saturday and small walking. I can actually hear the tendon creaking when I move my foot up and down so pretty sure it's shin splints.
Real bummer but what now? I'll have to do a bit of walking to get to the office and was thinking I'd go for a swim to see if that helps. I can see plenty of stretches and rehab exercises for once the initial pain subsides but not sure how much of that I can do now. Are there any gentle movements that will help?
-
• #30921
When I’ve had shin splints I’ve just switched 100% to bike. You can train and let them heal
-
• #30922
When I had that I just stopped immediately and just did bi daily stretches.
Completely anecdotal, but doing the baby squats or primal squat or whatever helped me a LOT. -
• #30923
Ballet plie (spelling?) squats
Edit: not strictly plié squats, but heels together, off the floor, bend your knees and squat.
I also had a load of dry needling done in the affected area, and it heeled up enough for me to.continue marathon training, and quite possibly run a PB

I'm sure this has been asked a million times before so apologies in advance. I'm a fairly fit cyclist (FTP 305 @ 63 kg very tall and skinny) but other than a tiny bit of sea swimming in summer and some occasional bits of strength and conditioning work with either body weight or a kettle bell at home I don't really mix things up. I typically cycle 8-10 hours a week, across indoor and outdoor Z2, interval, vo2 max and endurance rides. I've been meaning to run a little for a while for two reasons, firstly to mix things up and also to improve bone density and to work other muscles. I've just run my third 5k run; I've been doing one a week with a warm up
and warm down
. I don't feel like I'm flying at all but rather running at what feels a fairly comfortable pace (ignoring the doms the following days). Each run has been between 21:45 - 22:30. My question is, is this too fast too soon and is injury a likelihood or is it a reasonable load? I've no interest in running more than 5k a week and I don't want to impact negatively my cycling. Prior to these runs I've never really run and I'm on the cusp of 40 if that's relevant. -
• #30925
nah, you'll be fine
running for 22mins a week wont injure you. as you say, you're aerobically fit and if you've done a few runs already and not hurt yourself then you're probably past the point where you'd immediately break yourself now anywayWouldn't think it'll impact the cycling either, and definitely not at that volume. I found as run fitness improved then it just helped keep my HR down on the bike
I have a pair of Brooks Glycerin GTS size 11 I’ve been meaning to get ride of for a while. Wore them for one run then realised I’d bought the GTS version. Yours for £30 if you’re interested.
