Dr Rowan should resume the post, the best leading public figure in this country in my lifetime… waits for someone to let me know he did this this and this terrible thing. The forum can be such a wake up call, both good and bad!

Welby is going because his inaction after an internal 2013 CoE review revealed the ongoing cover up, and he did nothing.
Any CoE official who saw the 2013 report needs to go as well.
No idea where your guy, Rowan, was in 2013. -

But it was only a bit of caning, like you get at boarding school. Nothing sexual about it.

Francis Wheen of Private Eye gives some good background on Welby's inaction, and lies, about his knowledge of the CoE child abuse.

The John Smyth monster....nobody seems to be asking whether he thought he was doing good. He persuaded devout Christians to submit to beatings, up to 200 strokes of a cane, saying it was what god wanted. Was that his sincerely held belief, or a lie? There are other Christians who practice torture as an act of faith, but they do it to themselves, not each other.

I’ve read both the Winchester college and the CofE reports and it’s an ‘off the scale’ level of darkness and depravity. Mind control, brain washing, coercive control. He basically created an elite evangelical Christian sadomasochistic cult that existed and propagated for years within an English boarding school. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the church, the parents, the school govenrors and teachers then covered it up. And worse still, and most horrifying of all, they then sent him ‘to Africa’ in an act of unspeakable racism and arrogance and cruelty that just fickibh blows my mind. He was ficking insane, but the people who covered it up were respected members of society, who inflicted this fucking Hannibal lector on children in Zimbabwe for 20 years to escape their shame and embarrassment
