  • With winter forecast to hit with a bang in Ireland next week I’m looking at picking up a few bits to make it more bearable. Sealskinz waterproof socks and shoe dryer ordered.

Any recommendations on a really good waterproof jacket? I’m open to dropping a decent amount on something really good in the hope that it’ll last a few winters.

Also, any waterproof tight recommendations? Are they a thing in running? Something like the nanoflex cycling stuff

  • Waterproof socks with merino inners if you're hiking/ fastpacking for 3hrs+ else htfu.

Similar for leggings. Alpkit Khoulin Trail tights I'd recommend.

Jacket, useful for slower effort runs or being out on the fells else plenty of merino layers & maybe a windproof gillet could be enough.

I do own and use a lightweight Montane jacket but very rarely when running. It will last a few years before it delaminates so good vfm.

    Patagonia Houdini comes to mind.

I got two Salomon rain jackets (for running), first was a "Bonatti" (I think the trail version), second was a Gore Tex one (they don't do anymore / right now, it seems) - both are good, the Gore Tex one is amazing actually.

In regards to running in shit weather I also heard good things about the Adidas jackets.
