  • Thanks. I’ve also heard people say if the chainrings, chain and cassette have worn together, then once it’s gone beyond .75 you may as well run them into the ground.

  • What are you plugging in?

Not the OP but I've done similar (taking a 4-way UK extension block) on a holiday with wife/kid.

There's usually various chargers or things that need power (laptops, etc). I take 6 port mains powered USB hub and that means we can charge all 3 of our phones, iPad, our watches (one Garmin, two fitbits), etc from that and plug in a laptop if we want to watch a film. One adapter and 4 UK sockets is much easier than multiple adapters.

  • This is what I take on all our trips, UK or abroad. It's a universal adapter (the various prongs slide out) and has one mains socket, 3 USB ports and 2 USB-C ports.

    Last time?

    1. My phone charger
    2. OH's phone charger
    3. Rechargable fan
    4. Battery pack for another fan
    5. Go pro batteries

Also a couple of tablets and potentially my kindle because the battery doesn't last as long any more. But those can be switched around more so didn't include them in the above.

On other occasions/locations things like hair straighteners and a hair drier.

Often places were in don't always have the easiest or freest plug access - e.g. Unplugging one bedside light so you can put a phone charger to share. So just having one socket is less effort. Tbh I should probably make one with a euro cable and a medium length flex.

  • I'll add it to my backlog.

A mate suggested it when we went to live in the States. OH thought it was silly at the time. But when when you've got a load of day to day stuff like 2 laptops, hair stuff, etc. you fill it up.

Starting at 18 secs into the above track, what TV theme tune is it reminding me of? Going mad not being able to remember it.

  • Going for gold?

  • Intro to the Snooker, right?

  • Or maybe you're referring to the fact that Top Gear used Jessica as their theme tune?

  • I think it's this! Now mortally embarrassed at having outed myself as a top gear viewer, but I can only plead that it must be more than 25 years since I've watched it, hence the very hazy memory of the theme tune....

  • A few days ago I posted a photo in Epic Fail of a Teflon pan I bought with a huge label stuck in the middle of it that I couldn’t remove. Still haven’t managed to get the glue off. Tried simmering water with washing up liquid and white vinegar in it, but it’s still just all gummed up and won’t scrape off with a plastic spoon. I’ve also tried to just heat it up dry, but it won’t budge. Any other ideas??

  • lighter fluid?

  • Pop it in the dishwasher?

  • use the tip of a sharp knife, that will scratch it right off

  • Try meths.

    It's delicious.

  • Spray polish. Something like pledge.

  • WD40 or lemon juice

  • then once it’s gone beyond .75 you may as well run them into the ground.

Agreed, and that’s what I advise too, with the caveat that they shouldn’t use the bike in ways where a sudden dropped chain or mis-shift could put someone at risk. I flat out refused service to someone once because they wanted to put a child seat on a two wheeled deathtrap where looking at the front shifter wrong caused it to drop the chain, and shifting into a smaller cog caused the chain to slip more often than not.

(Not directed at you) Bikes used on public roads should be roadworthy. I have little sympathy for those who choose to put others at risk on the road because they didn’t want to spend £100.

  • Thanks, gonna try all those things in one big stew

  • This stuff's good

  • I for some reason have an Experian credit check subscription (prob left over from prep for remortgaging), and have just received notifications that credit checks have been run for eligibility for credit cards from ‘Zopa’ and ‘Vanquis’, which appear to be budget loan/card hawkers.

Am I being defrauded? Probably yes. What do I do now?

The Experian website has a ‘lock credit’ feature that claims to temporarily block any credit searches, but the button to activate it doesn’t seem to do anything.

How can I stop this shit from happening?

  • Change password if you haven’t already. Just in case your details were farmed from Experian.

More likely your details have been farmed from an easier source, probably an online shop or an old app you used with weak security. Google Password Manager in Chrome and iOS both give you breach notifications in settings. May be worth checking those in case there’s a clue there. Also check your email addresses on haveibeenpwned in case there’s been a recent breach.

  • And stop using the same password for everything 😁

  • How would you remove this bearing? I have used sockets to get the others out easily enough, but this one doesn’t have a flat surface to use a socket or press.

I know that blind bearing puller and a slide hammer is probably the answer, but I don’t want to have to buy those for this one job.

    Any suggestions?
