Gilles Berthoud? Do they come wide enough? Order 700xWidest and re-radius?

Re: mudguard wiggle… double the stays. Done this on 26x60mm GBs on my Thorn, works a treat.

Out of interest did you re-radius the honjos that snapped?

Found some discounts on the SKS Style at the mo, so going to try a pair of those and if they still wobble problematically or if I can't stand the aesthetics, will save up for honjos and pray they don't snap

PS I think the front guard twist problem is worse on daruma fixings at the fork, my thorn has two direct mount bolts which really stops the flex rotating at the fork

I am planning on creating a boss out of an old broken guard this time. Diamond shaped section and another fillet underneath, epoxyed to the new guard. Drill through all 3 layers. 🤞

I have had wobbly mudguards before and the fix I came up with was to stiffen the existing mudguard stays by attaching a spoke along each of the stays to stiffen them up. I cut them so they were exact fit from each fitted end of existing stays .
I used a load of electrical tape to attach. It was for a functional bike so maybe this should be under bodge/hack thread!
It did work for me.
Worth a go as you probably got spokes and tape somewhere..

A good idea. A neater alternative to tape could be heat shrink. Although I guess there's a question as to whether it would be firm enough.

Maybe 3 blobs of jb weld along the length or soldering them together.

I think my use of Berthoud stays in the way back when is still the better and way lighter option if you're willing to fork out for them.

Elegant solution but for me at least they're not wide enough, max width is 60mm.

What about some flat stock alu bent to fit? It'd be a little heavier but very robust.

I'm sure someone handier than me could make that work and look professional, but I'd rather buy something made by a professional

The Berthouds arrived after my little mudguard-gate last week. See images for more. As I've gone for the chromed stainless option this time instead of the black of old, I thought I'd do a 'dry' fit, simply laying the guards in place overnight to see if they look right. So far, I think they do look great, but also sit lower than my VOs of old (especially at the front). So - no mudflaps?

Controversial given my repeated and insistent plugging of mudflaps but we'll see, nothing's set in stone.

That’s about where I mount them without using a mudflap, works pretty well, no wet feet!

I think technically it’s meant to be shifted further forward so there’s more of a drop at the front, but it’s not very important

Yeah this is just where it sits when I line the pre-drilled front with the bolt hole in my work, which points downwards. I'm chuffed to not need flaps tbh, as they were great but they used to snag constantly on the slightest drop and were a leaf/twig/rock magnet. It'll be interesting to see how these go without.

I’m trying to fit some cheapo mudguards to a P2 disc fork and I can’t use the mudguard mounts next to the dropouts as the disc calliper is totally in the way. There are a couple of mid fork mounts so I’m trying to use the lower of those. The stays don’t really want to sit at that angle. Should I just bend them a bit to fit?

Yeah exactly (except I’ve only got one stay mount on the mudguard, in the same position as the lower ones on yours). Other option would be to use the lower mount on the fork (by the dropout) and use a good sized spacer to push the stay out so it clears the calliper that way.

Not mine. On my last bike I just opted for a big spacer and long bolt to push stay outboard around the caliper. Have also seen done like the below. On single stay guards like Berthoud or VO sometimes its possible to mount so far round and down it simply passes under the caliper.

Hi all, I'm looking for a mudguard extender that would work on SKS mudguards on a 20" wheel. For an e-bike: https://www.winora.com/de-en/p/radius-wr­an1/ attached is a photo.

Looked at getting an Ass Savers ToeTector or something similar but you have to mount via bolt/zip tie and there is no hole to do this in the current SKS mudguard. Looking at their website, I do not see any compatible extenders: https://www.sks-germany.com/en/productca­tegories/mudguards/

Any options (other than duct taping a half a coke 2L bottle) would be appreciated
