Diamondback Ambition 700c MTB frame - early 1990s

Posted on
  • Bought this from the forum a few months back to build up for visiting friend to get around on for a fortnight, then had long term plans for it to be my winter fun bike (eventually aiming to braze in Disc mounts and a permanent front rack).

Sadly there is not enough seat tube for my long legs.

It's an early 90s 700c mountain bike by Diamond Back as part of their Overdrive range.
The Ambition was made from less bling steel.

Comes with front canti hanger, refreshed 1" headset, seat post (unusual size).
Note - the frame has been de-stickered, but sports the original paint. Some aesthetic wear, but structurally perfect.

I can include a new saddle and a beater back wheel (zero brake rim wear, but needs bearings servicing) for a few quid more.
I'll be keeping all the other parts I built it up with.

My friend absolutely loved it for the 9 days he rode it with short stem and on one Mary bars and it was only his return trip to the other side of the world that stopped him buying it from me.

Big clearance in the frame and fork so it can accommodate some beefy tyres.

    Top tube c-c 59.5cm
    Virtual Top tube c-c 61cm
    Seat tube c-t 55cm

    Collection from SE27
Frame and seatpost owe me £65.
Saddle and wheel will a tenner more.

    Photos coming ASAP.

  • This sounds cool, I will await some photos!

  • Apologies everyone,

Haven't been home to get photos until today

  • 70mm clearance around rim in the chain and seat stays.
    62mm clearance in the fork.

    68mm English bb - I had a 115mm wide square taper running 1x.

  • Frame is structurally sound, BB threads in good shape.
Few scuffs to the paint and a couple of rust dots around cable stops.

If anyone wants pictures of specifics just give me a shout.
