Your visits sound much more interesting than most winery tours I've been on.
I'm surprised you've not had offers of help with harvest or winter cleanup.

It all depends on your budget & how mobile you are.
Taxis to visit champagne houses outside Reims or Epernay are around 50€ each way - making it unviable for most.
The large Champagne houses have fantastic tours so we generally recommend to visit them. The cost of cellar visits have increased a lot recently, so expect to pay from 60€ & up for each visit with 2 samples.
For us, we do do visits, but they are more on the technical side - cellar & vineyard work - so they do not appeal to all.
