Yeah, should be fairly drama free to fix. Aluminium dome tweeter would be a bad one

A few years ago I removed what I thought was a childproof grill to find a set of these jammed into a tweeter.
Same child was responsible for sticking a bread knife into a sofa arm and... actually, this could be quite the digression.

I know this isn't the thread technically (is there one?), but as audiophile hivemind maybe you can help. I've been given the green light to run audio cables to the rear of our living room for home cinema sound. We've been using wireless rear system which is both costly and has limited choice (neither ideal but was necessary).
The cables are going to run behind the plasterboard (newish build) through the ceiling back down to the rear. I'm thinking or running an extra 2 extra cables for atmos ceiling speakers (future proofing). So right now I'll run 3 incl sub with additional 2 for a few months time if I can get another green light.
Is there anything else I could do while laying pipe
channel and pulling wire? Are 2 extra speakers necessary? Or do I need more? Any other suggestions? As I'm painting the room this is probably my first and only chance.

Leave a string pulled through whatever ducting/trunking you use for future requirements.

No way am I getting rid. Once the kids leave home I've got 2 spare bedrooms and a 2nd lounge.

A while back i popped in hear to ask about upgrading my old hifi. In the ended i opted to do the amp first and Richer Sounds did me a good deal on a Marantz PM 7000N, some nice cables and an Audio Technica cartridge for my Technics 1300. Shitty Heos app aside i've been really happy with the performance and even the aesthetics of the amp have really grown on me.
Now i've just sold a bunch of things i'd like to replace my Ditton 15 speakers. The amp is used mainly for streaming music and listening to vinyl but has an optical input so we use it for watching TV and film as well. The room is something like 4.5m x 5m and the budget is £500ish. Think my girlfriend would be willing to loose her plant stands for better sound quality but i would prefer a more squat classic looking speaker so open to used/older stuff.
Any recommendations?

I need to to offload some Cyrus CLS70 on tripod stands. V nice, much under your budget, sound best with a sub so if you can get that past the domestic court of arbitration, buy my speakers, Steve's BK sub, still have change out of £500, and be very happy indeed 😀

I have some JBL L52 classics, they really pack a punch for a bookshelf sized speaker. Other half approves of the retro styling. I think RRP is circa £1k, but i got mine for £600ish i think. Would reccomend. I have them paired with a Cambridge Audio CXA81 amp.
I will deffo be getting the bigger L82 or L100's if/when we move somewhere with suitably sized living room to accommodate.

Looking to make friends with an electronics guru - I've got a few nice but faulty items - Technics SP10 mk2 that needs re-capping, Pioneer M22, some Revox bits, Michell Alectos, valve amplification...

I do that with one of my friends! What valve amp is that? 2x EL34 PP?

Thanks, not a huge fan of the styling but will put them on the possibility list.

Those look great. I'm so out the loop on prices but am i right to assume that bookshelf speakers on stands would be the way to go for my budget?

A strong recommendation for Lenco idler turntables. Modded a bit, with a heavy tonearm and a low compliance cartridge - they sound sublime. I believe you can buy one for as little as £30. They are not fussy at all, no suspension to worry about. There's a huge Lenco community here and some serious DIY turntable porn. - https://www.lencoheaven.net/

If someone could find me a functional idler lenco for £30 I'd be grateful.
Been looking for a new deck for a while and budgets are tight.
Bit of masking tape and you can pull that out.
I lent an old pair of Neat critique speakers to a friend and the 4yo poked the shiny gold tweeter before the speakers were even connected up!
Luckily they were gold fabric not metal.
