  • Probably should have just got the P1S but scope gonna creep etc.

@Brun - I have an FLSun v400 already. Will probably sell it but let’s see. They’re not worth much on the second hand market.

  • I went from FLSun Q5 to P1S. Clearly remember the whole setup experience being a world apart. Feels like a proper product rather than half-assembled kit.

Not wanting to send all my models to China I'm using LAN-only mode. Disables some features of the app but I haven't missed them.

Worth considering a bigger diameter nozzle if you plan on larger prints that don't require as much detail. They're pretty quick to swap and the speed difference is considerable.

  • Yeah i'm running the 0.6mm in mine with PA CF filament regualrly at the moment, works great

  • The AMS is cool, but changing filament every layer really slows things down a lot, and wastes a lot of filament too

  • I've ended up leaving the screws that hold the AMS spools to the bed of the AMS box out as the filament breaks inside the tubes so regularly, and you need to take it apart to get to the break to clear it.

  • There are screws that hold down the spools? Perhaps we have different models? Mine just rest of a couple of rollers.

  • for this reason, i use the support specific material on just the interface layer, saves a lot of time

  • Good to know! I assume that's just a setting in the slicer somewhere?

  • Ditto.. how do the spools rotate if screwed down?

  • Holds the bed in, the clear plastic tube goes underneath the bed so you have to pull it out to clear a broken bit of filament.

  • I've not encountered this with my AMS. what filaments are you using that have snapped? could they have become brittle due to moisture?

  • Ah right. Haven't had any breakages myself, but that's good to know.

  • Right, so that was 9h30m print time, 140g wastage and 40g cute cat. Yikes.

    Kids love it though.

  • i quickly realised it's usually better to print separate coloured parts out and glue them in afterwards...
    it is very cute though!

    printed without supports?

  • Got you. I'm x3 on no breakage issues with AMS. Interesting

  • I've done three prints so far and had an AMS issue with the PLA-CF they included with the machine. It wouldn't retract from the hotend.

A few videos / reddit posts suggested I needed to dismantle the extruder and/or the AMS but, in the end, I decoupled the PTFE tube at the back of the machine and manually pulled the filament through then manually wound the spool back in the AMS which did the trick.

Assume it's down to the nature of the CF material being more abrasive / harder to pull through.

  • printed a couple of bike bits lately... none of it that exciting.
the cad screengrab is a light mount bracket to attach a halfords front light underneath a pizza rack. the light clips in and is then secured by an elastic.
the prints in the photo are a mid fork light bracket tube and some tube spacers and a bracket extender for a set of mudguards.

  • That's very cool. I'm just getting started with CAD. I think my first self-designed print is going to be a thing to attach a Tile between the rails of my bike seat

  • thanks. I've been using cad for longer than I'd like to admit.
    what software are you using?

  • Because I'm on Linux, my options are a bit limited, but at the moment I'm having fun with onshape. The free version can do all the basic stuff that I need it to do.

  • multi colour is nice for putting contrasting text into labels on prints without it going too long esp if you can orient them face down on the plate.

the killer use case for the ams for me is still the autoswap feature when you run out and just being able to store different types of filament and not have to faff changing them in and out.

annoyingly my x1c needs unclogging today as i was trying to print some multiboard tiles for my workshop but they kept lifting off the plate so i recalibrated the filament and got a perfect first layer and then nothing else came out but looked like nothing was wrong so it just kept going like that for about 30 mins. ffs.

sorting an extruder clog is less hassle than it feels, i just didn't want to be dealing with it.

  • Trying to decide, get a second hand ender pro or a new elegoo Neptune 3 for not much more in the black Friday sale. I use a Bambu X1 at work but think using a down grade will teach me more. Anyone has any thoughts?

  • the stuff you'll learn on an older bed slinger are the same reasons why the bambu is so popular because you don't have to do them anymore.

calibrating (and keeping it calibrated) is time consuming, boring and frustrating a lot of the time.

it's only really worth it now if you actively enjoy the constant tinkering which is almost a separate hobby to making things on your 3d printer.

  • Just feels like cheating with the bambu. It will be my home/hobby one so time for a tinker.

  • If you’re interested, I’m now selling my FLsun v400.
