In the old UI, long hold on "do not disturb" brought up an option to set a time which I find handy otherwise I tend to forget.
Now I just get on or off.
Anyone know if this an android "improvement" or something specific to Samsung?

As in this?
I get this long holding on Do not disturb on Samsung

Yeah, I get that except without the hours option.
And now I've also discovered that the previous way of taking a screenshot doesn't work on this phone either. :/

Search gestures in settings.

Weird given this is also an S24+.
Screenshot is still power and volume down for me but I think I may have changed some setting for that. I turned off all the gesture and swiping stuff.

Thanks.
Previously, I used a diagonal swipe from bottom left to shrink the window, and then the option to take a screenshot of the window would appear.
Now I have "palm swipe to capture" which is on, but I don't know how to use it.

Drag the edge of your hand from left to right across the screen (I think right to left also works, but I'm not sinister so I've never tried)

Girlfriend needs a new phone as her Samsung A11 is near end of life. This seems to have really good specs

Ah thanks, got it to work now.
It does seem quite clunky compared to the previous method where you could flick through windows and choose the one you wanted to capture.
Such is progress!

One of my old phones, either the Lumia or the Sony Xperia, just had screen shot as an option if you long pressed the power button. Nothing I've had since seems like an improvement.

My partner just got a G54 (and I'm considering one as well). So far, seems a pretty good phone. The only other thing I'm considering is a pixel 6 but they are usually a bit not than your budget second hand.

Thanks - found a way to switch this on in do not disturb settings.

Did you look into Nothing phone before settling on Samsung?
-
• #23216
Yes but not in great depth.
From a few reviews, they seemed a little under developed compared to the big manufacturers. I took the view that this isn't an area where I want to be an early adopter.
So seems like an interesting company and product philosophy; maybe next time for me.

Samsung S20 FE 5G on refurbed? (that’s what I just bought).
-
• #23218
It seems to be the same pattern the Nexus devices went through.

Thanks, looks alright. Not as much RAM as in the Moto, but she's hesitant to move away from Samsung for some reason so this might be a winner 👍

Yeah seems ahead on everything else using versus.com as comparison tool to the G54.

I've somehow changed my default search engine/browser on my phone. The one that comes up when you hold down on a word and select "web search" from the menu. Any ideas how to change it? I can't find it in settings and all I can find online relates to changing your default search engine on your browser.

It's here I think

That's where I think it should be but I can't find it in there.
My default browser is Firefox (with Duckduckgo as the default search engine). When I hold down on a word and choose "web search" (on the gmail app for instance) it opens in Duckduckgo browser though.

I've managed to change mine to Firefox but equally now can't find how to change it without just removing firefox.

it opens in Duckduckgo browser
I think that is default behavior if you choose ddg as your search engine. Mine does the same.
Yup this has been the overall consensus when I've asked around recently. I guess Samsung knew this was a major bar to ppl buying them and addressed it
