^ this. I laugh every time I hear the Dems referred to as radical leftists. They are further right than most mainstream European right wing parties.

Bullying people is easy, going hard on economic issues with corporations buying politics / the way international finance works / not owning the media landscape so getting constant attacks is hard.

There is a reason Labour is a bit meh too on some issues, if they say anything out loud they will be attacked like mad. Or the stock market / bond markets will bury them.

Harris seems to have lost every swing state and most of the country veered right/red.

And in half a day Johnson went from the clown who was dropped from the Channel 4 coverage to somebody with powerful friends in America. He'll be looking for whatever he can get.

I'll pick up their early point - how are you defining "left".

My takeaway is that in a US context left =

1. socially progressive policies (ex child tax credit obvs) +
   
2. educated to higher level +
   
3. federal dominance (ex a certain subset of issues where people are OK with federal supremacy)
   

But these words have meaning separate from the political spectrum of the nation in which they are operating. Take Harris and regard her policy platform (what little there is of it beyond 'the other guy is bad') and it is not a left platform.

In fact, we don't even have to talk in abstracts here we can just run back to 2016 to see what the concrete differences between a left candidate (Bernie Sanders (who would've won)) and a centrist (Hillary Clinton, loser) look like. At which point it becomes apparant that the left, as distinct from the centre, has more to offer than:

'it will be better trust me bro' or broad philosophical concepts like 'democracy is at stake'

I know Harris is seen as a continuation of Biden with this stutters and failing memory, but even so for trump to win by this much and in every house. Somehow Americans are even dumber than I give them credit for, which is very little. I'll have to avoid American media for a while.
