Marathon restaurant. -

If you're ground level, there is no bulletproof solution that will stop from one running in from street front / loading bay. I worked in a Michelin star place where even the dry store got hoovered and mopped once a day, and we still had mice running in every once in a while.
Then I also worked at a rooftop place that was just a hard to clean environment (rustic wood panels with cracks inbetween...etc), there it took a good 3 months of combined pest control & deep cleaning routine to get rid of them. Makes for great conversation with the guests.

Ooh, nice thanks. Marathon is the Ethiopian spot on Cally road? I love Ethiopian and was thinking of suggesting one much cheaper option to allow us to really go big on our December trip. This might work perfectly. Take it you've been? Good vibes and good food?

There is a bulletproof solution, just don't have any food or drink on the premises. What do you mean it's a restaurant? Well, tough. :)

Ibai - was pretty great. I think it’s a perfect place for 3-4ppl. 1kg of steak between 2 was ambitious.

That's it. I remember it being good but thinking about it I've probably not been since COVID.
Food was good, remember the Ethiopian wine was an acquired taste.

I'm heading to Cornwall for new year and would like to book something a bit special to celebrate. Not looking new years eve, but either side.
Any recommendations welcome, will be near to Falmouth but have a car with us, so can travel. -

Whatever you do, don't be tempted by Rick Steins fish place in Falmouth. We found it very disappointing.

Culture is interesting but very worthy fine dining.
Verdant fish bar is tasty but small and gets incredibly busy
Likewise MINE is very small but excellent food
Star and Garter was a pub trying very hard to be more
Seaview Inn will supposedly do a pint of Bass and is a local’s choice drinking place
Pizza (and beer) at Verdant tap room in Penryn is good. Perfectly walkable from Falmouth
Good Vibes cafe did a good breakfast
A hidden gem is Provedore. Was doing breakfast/lunch but now seems to be evening small plates. The cooking was excellent. -

Coombeshead farm is awesome but likely a little far but with the bonus that you could drop in to Phillip warren
Hidden hut- the owner has a pub called the standard inn, haven’t been but hear good things
Crocadon farm

All great suggestions! We especially loved Hidden Hut (food and setting) and it’s well worth a visit - I remember the chowder being 10/10 legit. They do dinner nights but they’re seasonal, infrequent, and sell out quickly; well worth doing if you can. I didn’t know about the sister pub and will definitely check that out when next in that part of the world.

Brilliant thank you, more than enough for our trip. I'm now going to see what I can book! I'd been looking at MINE, so that will be first on the list.
Also great shout on pubs thank you.

Went to https://www.boboandwild.co.uk/ on Sunday. Enjoyed it. Next to the cannal for a walk afterwards.
Note you can't book. We didn't have to wait too long though.
Shoreditch Park was a surprise. Really nice and a long way from the dull patch of grass it used to be.

Pretty much what Awu tang has already said, but adding in Adam handling’s Tartan fox, which is actually closer to Truro than Newquay and has always been excellent when we went. Elevated pub food. If before Xmas pops into ‘ost’ in Truro. A cafe that my partner has started, lfgss discount will apply :)

If you want good coffee, head to dark pony in Falmouth, such nice people and amazing coffee. They all used to work at origin coffee. Let them know we recommended them, they’ll sort you out :)

I'm off to Falmouth next week, I love origin so will go there for sure. Do they know you as mr_lunch?! 🤣
They shouldn't let the humans in, then.
Mice are lovely animals, the only problem is that they're wild animals in the wrong place. I don't want to call them 'pests'. They just want to live and find food, and it's 100% not their fault when they're born in cities.
