Sounds like an old Dave Chapelle joke that the first black US president should appoint a Latino male as VP because the people most likely to want to do something to him would be even more upset at having a Latino as president.

Trump appointed him after they tried to shoot him. As an insurance policy so he doesn't get shot again...
He's got more intellectual heft and ideology than Trump, could potentially take things in a new direction if he gets a turn. Not interested in Europe.
